My God, Bill. How did a sweet simple fellow like you end up with a harridan like that? Sorry but that's how I read her. How wonderful you were there for your grandmother, but it's even more wonderful that she was there for you. Nowadays, most kids don't get that, the families are so far flung. I love how you got out of being blamed for the gun going off. That was priceless!

Thanks for reading and your kind feedback. All I can tell you about the ex was that at the time this took place, she was not the girl I married. People change. God always has a plan. Soon after this time, I met my current wife, the love of my life. Warm regards, Bill

Terrific story Bill. You've done a splendid job of crafting this chronical to which many of us can relate. There aren't too many who realize that there are many things far more valuable than money and holdings. It sounds like your ex worked hard receiving the station which she so richly deserved. Very well done.

bhogg:
some people just don't get it -- and, unfortunately,
for them, they never will -- their loss, not yours!
I am amazed that all your brothers and sisters agreed
on that -- it's highly unusual that at least one doesn't
through a cog in something like that -- I'm so proud
of all of you
thanks for sharing
love,
jan

Thanks for reading Jan and your kind feedback. Two of my brothers really needed the money at the time. They delayed about 30 seconds. Warm regards, Bill

My God, son, what's the good news?"

Outstandingly written. One nit: I believe the legal term it "quit claim". You've described the role of caregiver perfectly. It's a shame you got so little understanding at home ("if you won't help, at least don't hinder" comes to mind). By the way, the contributing factor in the failure of your marriage was your ex-wife's lack of empathy--a character flaw--not your grandmother's last days. Your memories are indeed a treasure without price. Nancy

A lifetime of memories. (This is what it is all about.)
I am appauled that your x-wife didn't understand about your grandmother. I am one of those people who hate to see out elderly put on a shelf and wait for them to die. They are too precious and we need to listen to their wisdom.

My goodness! Your ex sounds horrible! No wonder she's your ex. Karma is a cruel mistress though so she should be careful because it is going to come back on her. On the other hand your Grandmother sounds absolutely charming! :) The way you describe her is great, I can picture this feisty woman with a heart of gold as she shows you where to find arrow heads, very cool :)
Thanks for sharing and for the well written read :)
