Somebody who dares to be different eventually will probably "make it" and Vincent Van Gogh was one of those, all arty people tend to have a slightly, or even greatly sensitive nature, and I think he probably had the most sensitive. This is so beautifully written Beth, I think you've captured the mood perfectly,, well done, my friend, blessings Roy

Thank you Roy, He certainly didn't get much acclaim in his day, which is sad. If you're going to make it, it would be nice if it happened when you could still enjoy having arrived. Still, fame is fleeting, and if those who have it, don't seem to be happy long. He might have still have committed suicide.

It?s probably best done without, even the rich and famous aren?t that happy.

What a lovely note to Vincent. I'm sure he is happy now. How could he not be with the world in awe of him and his work bringing so much happiness to us.

Wow! Thanks so much for the six star rating on this poem. If he'd gotten a little more recognition while he was alive he might have not taken his own life at such a young age.

This is a great post, BethShelby. I love the way you've gone back and presented Van Gogh's life. Why do people of such genius have to suffer while they're alive? Do you think art changed around him, or that he changed art?
Best of luck in the contest. Great entry.
Regards, anabelle

Thank you anabelle, I really appreciate your review and comments. I know he changed art but not in his lifetime. I think he was also changed by art. He had great talent but he didn't seem to be able to handle his emotions or the rejection of the art community.

Excellent poem. You create a very vivid image of this troubled artist. I agree that no one fully understood him but he was a great artist. Good luck in the contest.

you suffer [though] such awful pain - did you mean through? It would work as though, too. It depends how you look at it.
This was an exceptional piece about Vincent Van Gough. It is every bit as good as Don Maclain's song, Starry Starry Night, from his American Pie album.
I absolutely loved this, Beth.

Thank you Sharesy, I really appreciate that six star rating. I love Don McClean's song so that is quite a compliment. I did mean through. I'm so glad you caught that.
Hugs,

The rhyming in you poem about Vincent Van Gogh is spectacular. I really enjoyed reading what you had to say about him. Best wishes in the voting booth.

Great poem about a great artist.
You honor him with this well crafted
poem.. Good rhyme and pacing. it
is too bad he wasn't appreciated at the time.

An excellent work. Because of the strength of the flow of the poem, the aabbcc rhyme scheme does not lend a lilting tone to the poem, as it can often do. You have great insight into Van Gogh's mind and life.

Thank you Alvin, I appreciate the review and comments. As an art major, I learned a lot about his style and also the man himself.

Ah. Van Gogh. One of my favourite artists. A singular talent about whom you have written most eloquently. This is faultless, Beth and a really enjoyable read.

Thank you so much Kat, I'm glad you enjoyed this. It's in a contest so don't forget to vote. To the letter police, I'm not suggesting that you should vote for me. LOL
All the best,

Excellent poem! You capture the tragedy and emotional upheaval very well. Van Gogh was a tortured soul who never realized the fame he deserved, until after death of course.
