Hi Al...another 2 cent poem, but who cares? I really like the style you used here. Your thoughts, fears and anger comes out so well in the lines. Written with skill, emotion and pathos....well done....chey

Thanks; I am trying to promote when I can. I just heavily promoted four poems, so my FS monetary bank is weak. Thanks for a good review.

Hello Alvin so sorry I'm late replying to your free verse poem
I hope my thoughts will help-

I know your thoughts are kind,
your mind is anxious now
you are grieving over
many unfair ways of man
so your frets are pined
at the present time.

I pray,God make them fade
quickly out of sight ~
and all are blotted out.

Gert

Alvin, your poem echoes loudly the sentiments of so many people. Judges are supposed to be impartial; however, they, too, are biased. I heard a panel of judges discussing this very subject, and all but one admitted that their emotions play a big part in their decision making.

Thanks for so well understading what I was trying to convey. Thanks also for letting me know that judges do dicuss this subject. That's heartening.

I am so sorry; I did not realize you have a second sentencing hearing. No, under any conditions and outcome, it won't be pleasant, but I shall be thinking good thoughts.

I admired the stark, directness of your poem and its focus on the mundane, until the last stanzas where whimsy takes over. I appreciate your using it as a survival tool. What a shock to the reader and tragic miscarriage of "justice" can result. I hope he has a "Grand Slam" and an epiphany leading to your freedom!

Thank; now you see why I am under such stress. I called the court on Friday, only to find there was a warrant out for my arrest. I was there in August, and they said no charges had been filed against me. I don't know what is going on, but I certainly am paying the price for exposing police corruption and violence. Thanks for a good review.
reply by Joan E. on 22-Nov-2009
How awful to find out that shocking news on Friday. I remember your relating a few months ago that the charges had been dropped and I was so relieved. I can only hope that the judge will hear your explanation of the events and see most of the situation as a gross miscarriage of "justice". Try to be strong, and I shall think only positive thoughts. -Joan

Alvin I hope you are going to be alright. Gaol is a terrible place to be in, and what wrong have you done ? I hope you have a good lawyer ( we call them solicitor over here)

Take care

No, I can't afford one and the wait for the public one is too long. The technical charge is drunk in public , but it's more because I filed a complaint about police brutality a few years ago and I recently wrote an article claiming they murdered someone and planted evidence on him (which I believe to be true.) Now every chance they have they arrest me and have a judge on their side who gives severe sentences to me. Thanks for your good wishes.

Hi Alvin,

Just stick to your guns and stand tall. Do you not have an attorney?

When I was young and wild I loved hollering "Fuck the law!"

I still do.

These days I'm a lot more subdued but I never got into trouble back then either. It seemed that they were charmed by my profane vulgarity. That tells you something, when you think about that.

Sadly, jails filled to capacity these days, that they would even entertain spending tax payer money (or any money, regardless) on a peaceful citizen exercising his right to free speech along with the possibility of jail time is absurd. Yeah, you idiots, let violent offenders walk out the door and persecute the lamb. Sounds familiar doesn't it?

My prayers are with you. Good luck, my friend.

Yes, far too familiar in my case. Thanks for a good review. I can't afford an attorney and the wait for the public one is too long.
reply by Kentucky Sweet Pea on 22-Nov-2009
No, no, no. They are required to make an attorney available to you. Or did I miss another gaping rape of the Constitution perpetrated by the Bush regime?
reply by the author on 22-Nov-2009
Yes, they will. But it would take hours to see her and I would be isolated at the courthouse in a cramped jail cell with no shower and no toiletries. The jail they would take me to in downtown L A is nicer.

Also, I know the judge has already made up his mind. Nothing anyone says or does will prevent him from giving me a harsh sentence. He is mean; he even once said publicly that his sentencing depends on his mood at the time.

reply by Kentucky Sweet Pea on 22-Nov-2009
You are NOT going to jail. Not! What state do you live in? I'm not kidding. This is ridiculous and I cannot fathom it. I've always wished that I had not waited until I was in my 30's to go to college. I would have made one hell of a lawyer and my practice would be dedicated to the pursuit of true justice and not money. I would love to be a champion of the underdog and the hope of the meek. Every courthouse door within 15 counties would have my picture on the door encircled in red with a line through it and I would be perpetually in contempt of court!

Hello Alvin:
This is a sad poem because of saying good-bye to familiar, every day life for a while and facing the possibility of going to a nasty place behind bars.
Sarcastic too in its final line which I like a lot and allows me to see what I think is a lighter side to this situation. Just a little bit of light to be sure; but not too much.
It is difficult for me to imagine that the law in your area is acting as if it was the dark ages. It is a scary outrage.

Yes, it is. What I am hoping for is that once I get to the top echelon of the jail system, the people there will release me. The last time this happened, the judge sentenced me to thirty days, and I was out in a day and a half. Thanks for a good review.
reply by Blue Danube on 22-Nov-2009
    Hello Alvin:

It woud be very nice if the top echelon in the prison system made sure warrants are not issued against you just because someone has something against you.

The police usually see me drinking at a restaurant and then, when I am walking home, arrest me for "drunk in public" without even using a breath analyzer. They have a judge that will give severe sentences for that very minor misdemeanor charge.
reply by Blue Danube on 22-Nov-2009
    Alvin:

I get it now and it is horrible.

Since we are on the subject, my son was arrested and has a false DWI or DUI because, just like they do to you, they did not do a breath analyzer or blood test. Also the police car video shows everything normal. The judge dropped the case and my son did not have to go to jail but, in the meantime, he attempted suicided twice within three weeks just thinking that he might have to go to jail.
The fake charge won't be dropped unless I pay a hefty amount to a lawyer to get the arrest record expunged. All for nothing and gets in his way because nobody hires him. He is bipolar and faces a number of challenges.
There are still fascists walking around in this free country and they get away with far too much.

Yes, I suffer from extreme clinical depression, and I have had suicidal ideation. Luckily I haven't acted on it. I am going to an open microphone poetry reading today, so maybe that will lift my spirits. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers tomorrow.

    Dear Alvin:

I have tears of joy and emotion at you participating in the open microphone reading today. That makes me hopeful for your well-being.

Trust me, I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers and I'm still hoping the bad people will go far away from you.

I read that. I hope it does not happen. Do you think maybe they will just give you a fine, or does it look like it really will be time. I hope they don't throw you in jail. It seems like your life is full of chaos. No wonder you like to write. Shirley

No, this set-up has happened twice before and both times a mean judge has thrown me in jail.
reply by Shirley B on 21-Nov-2009
That is no good. I hate crooked judges and cops. My life has been a merry go round. Brought up in a Baptist Oklahoma family where everyone and everything was a sin. Married at 19. Fell for someone eles that was addicted to drugs and was in a nd out of prision, But loved him because I knew I could help him. Became a nurse, moved to Charleston Sc worked at a hospital that had many patients who were homeless and had Aids. This was in the 1980s. I learned a lot of compassion. I never lost that. Now I am married to a lawyer of all things. My friends say I am the best thing that ever happened to him!!!!!! :-)

No, I haven't. But there have been many happy times in life, as well.
reply by Shirley B on 21-Nov-2009
good, Think about those times. Think on the bright side Alvin, you are going to have so much new material when you get out! My friend when he was sent to prison, I was being silly and he requested magazines. I took him some magazines but I also took him a cookbook for the hell of it. Will they let you use a computer and let you write?

Alvin, I like the satiric, dark humor of your final line - it is good to see you are retaining your wit in the midst of all of this.
If I could be so bold as to offer a suggestion - just be polite and say Yes, Sir, to everything the man says - if his mood affects his sentencing, add to the peace :-) Brooke
