That was really sweet and lyrical. For some reason I heard the tune of "Hush Little Baby" as I read it. Ingenious job of incorporating the flower names into the lullaby. Lovely flow and cadence. Wonderful poem, my friend. And the picture was cute too. Reminds me of when my kids were babies, I would hold them like that and talk to them or sing to them and they would stare at me or smile and giggle. *sigh* In many ways, they were so much easier to deal with back then.
Have a wonderful 4th of July!
Hugs and smiles,
Diane

Diane, Many people have mentioned that same lullaby. Ah, yes, it sure is sweet to remember them at that age!! Happy Fourth to you, also, my friend, and thank you. :-) Brooke

What a delightful way to use your wildflower names, Brooke. I'm a big fan of lullabys and make CD's for the preemies I care for. Beautiful poetry.

Karyn, that is so sweet of you - you sound like my daughter, the nanny, who creates mix tapes of songs to play for the children she cares for. Thank you and good morning, my caring friend. Brooke :-)

Brooke,
This is a sweet little lullaby! Adorable.
Such a soft lilt and mesmerizing lyrics.
I loved the third stanza. It reminded me of 'visions of sugarplums danced in their heads'. LOL
This was a relaxing and pleasing poem to read.
Great writing.

Very sweet poem, I guess there is nothing in this world as sweet as a baby even the baby's cry be it a cry of hunger or uncomfortableness is music to a mother's ear.

And now you must set this to music, for
it has a lovely, soothing sound, perfect for
a little one's dreams. Your creative use of the
flower names is wonderful! I have to say, I'm not
familiar with all those names, but they sound delightful!

Carolyn, for that I need someone better than I at writing music :-) Thanks so much. Brooke

Lovely, warm and very revealing of a grandma's love for her grandchild. The rhyming is also spot on. I wonder if the author is aware of a song from a movie (the title of which I can't remember) that starts with 'Hush little baby don't you cry' etc. The words of the poem here fit it perfectly. Unfortunately, the song from the movie came from a rather disturbing scene!?

Eddie, fortunately, the lullaby is far older than the movie, so I don't associate it as closely as you do with Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte. :-) And my lullaby has reminded a whole lot of people of that lullaby - I did not have it in mind but was going for the "lullaby" sound, so I'm thrilled I achieved it. Thanks so much. Brooke :-)

I don't know how you do it. I just woke up after reading this the first time. I didn't dream about peppermint sticks and jelly beans, more like bread sticks and pork and beans. The point is, this is one hell of a lullaby.

Awe ! How sweetly musical.
Hi B
I like these verses as much and more than the original lullaby .
" Peppermint sticks and jelly beans
will please you in your sweetest dreams.
Midnight candy beyond compare
will chase away all thoughts of care." Mommies yummy verse.
Very cute and cuddly .

Are they wild flowers? Or versions of like roses? I have never heard of these at all! You worked them beautifully into a lullaby. All ready to be a grandma?

Deb, Most of the flowers in this poem are from a list of heirloom/ antique flowers that date back at least 50 years. selectseeds.com lists and pictures most of them. Thanks, Brooke :-)
