Hi Debi,
This poem made me chuckle. It is so true that these words almost become swear words in Winter. It is dangerous to travel in any way during the cold months. I like the pun in the last line. And I do believe a lot of us feel that way.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Merry Christmas.
Joan

Aha, my friend Joan can vouch for me, that it really can get that kind of windchills here in the winter. Wednesday was horrible, wasn't it?

I thank you so much for your awesome review and such kind words. I had some fun doing this because it was so out of character for me. I guess I needed a change. So thanks again my dear friend. Love, Debi

    You're very welcome, Debi.
Yes I can relate to this.
It is good to get out of your comfort zone every once in a while, in writing that. I don't thing anyone would think of below zero weather is in their comfort zone.

Haha Pam, you are no stranger to the cold tho, are you? I know you are from the Atlantic, north or south? That makes a big difference.

I thank you so much for your awesome review and such kind words. I had some fun doing this because it was so out of character for me. I guess I needed a change. So thanks again my dear friend. Love, Debi

No, we are not. I grew up in Delaware and live in New Jersey. Both places have seen their share of cold weather and snow. We have been in a big cold snap recently, but it's supposed to be nicer tomorrow. You are very welcome for the review and weather update, Debi.

Oh yeah, you guys have really been hit with the snow. You always get a variation of our weather about two days later. Today was 45 degrees but still windy and cold. The ice is strong enough for small fish houses.

Thanks again for the dog video. That was adorable!

We haven't had any snow yet. Temperatures a little better today in low 50's. You are welcome for the video.

Haha Debi hilarious! When we get snow in Ireland we all go crazy because we get so little of it, we love it even if all the the bits are cold lol! The snow is usually gone within a matter of a couple of days.
So you live in the 3rd coldest state Wow! I can feel your pain then through the stanza's, I can see why you get so fed up!!
My Mams first cousin lives in Canada and we are always getting updates on the snow up there, its pretty extreme too!
Stay warm and thanks for sharing this fun poem!!
Best Wishes

That was hilarious, Debi! Your four letter words and they 'snow balls' had me laughing. Minus 70? And you are only the third coldest state! Oh my, I couldn't live there, not for all the money in the world! I'm glad you still manage to keep a sense of humour! I enjoyed this fun poem, it brightened up my day! Love you lots, my friend, stay indoors and keep warm! Sandra xxx

Hello dear Sandra, and is it cold where you live at all? I don't know much about the UK.

Hi Debi, what an uplifting and cute poem. I like how you listed the things about winter and the frigid cold. I don't like winter. You're stuck inside and it gets so cold. I don't think I would like living there. It sounds way too cold. Well written. Love, Brenda

There are many times that I share your sentiments, but other times, I'm so grateful for the beauty of the wintry landscape. I LOVE your last line - it made me laugh! Thank you.

Actually we are right on with that sentiment. This was only meant to be fun and silly. As much as I don't like driving in it or minus 70 windchills, I do think it can be pretty as long as we don't get stuck in it. Especially around the holidays it is so pretty. Thanks so much for your fun review and comments.
I appreciate it so much. Love, Debi

Yes, I could do without those four-letter words of snow and cold. I don't envy you living in the third coldest state. After a week of near-zero temps here in Indiana, I'm ready for spring. You give ample reasons for disliking winter--the danger of falling, hazardous road conditions, etc. Excellent rhyme and flow in all your lines, and I love the humor. Just wondering--How are you doing with your Oxivate treatment? I've been on it, and the delivery system is a big pain, as far as I'm concerned. Surely they could make it easier. I hardly have time to take a shower and get dress before it's time for another treatment. If it works, I may change my tune. One of my main problems is sensitivity light. judi

Hi Judi, I will be starting my fourth week tomorrow and they are a pain in the butt. Now after my appointment with my eye specialist, I found out that my eye is full of edema again, so they put me back on steroids and another drop to help prevent more infection. I have had so many infections they are trying to be pro-active. So right now I am using drops every half hour because I do ointment too. My sight went backwards but that is from the swelling. I pray this helps because they say the transplant will be easier with the Oxervate.

Did they reduce your screen time at all? It is so wonderful to have someone doing this at the same time as me. At least it is someone to vent with a little. LOL.

So enough about me, you say that light sensitivity is bad. OMGosh, Judi I can't handle any sunlight either. I wear sunglasses in the house. It may be cold but the sun is brighter than I ever remember. I didn't know if it was my eyes getting worse so thank you for telling me that it is the Oxervate.
How long have you been on it now? Glen won't let me touch it because of the dry ice. And they sure do send enough supplies, don't they?

So I have to ask you. Have you gotten screwed up a little and ever forgotten any, been late or like you said, it is hard? Terribly hard. I just want to know because I have gotten so messed up even before they put me on the other drops. Especially around Thanksgiving. I've not told the doctor that as I keep thinking, what does it matter if it is an hour late?? So anyway, don't feel like the Lone Ranger, cause I am having trouble with it too.

And thanks so very much for all the kind comments for my silly poem. I don't hate winter as much as the poem says, but about Feb I am ready for Spring.

Thanks and let's keep in touch cause I really care how you are doing. Thanks for the knowledge about the sun. I thought it was my condition.
Talk to you soon!! Love, Debi

I left home at seventeen to join the Navy because of the horrible winters in Northern Ohio, I figured it would be better on a ship than slogging through the snow in the Army. I enjoyed your poem, it was a fun write.

Hi Don and Vicki, and thanks for the awesome review. I was just having a little fun with everyone, as I really don't hate everything in Winter so bad. I was just in the mood to be a bit goofy. So thanks for having a laugh with me. Love, Debi -

This work has reached the exceptional level

The last time I saw -70 was in my last year of school on my final math's exam. Surprisingly, I failed.
I always enjoy your humor poems. It makes me realize I'm not the only MAD contributor on Fanstory.
A delightful read, Mrs. Marquette.

Awe, how delightful of a review and yes, I proclaim to be a bit MAD, but I am only doing it for the smile it may give others. I know this really isn't like me, Bob, but I was in kind of a squirrelly mood. Thanks for the fun review, my awesome friend. And also for the honor of your six star review.
    Love, Debi

That's a good one, Debi. Here in Maine it gets cold, but where I live, on the coast, it's not too bad.

Winter

September might bring early frost.
October sees a shorter day.
November, all the leaves are lost.
December, winter's on the way.

The ice is making on the lakes.
Migrating birds have southward flown.
We now have seen the first snowflakes.
The northwest winds now sweep and moan.

The deer are struggling in their yards.
Bird feeders help the finch and wren.
An easy time's not in the cards,
But bear and cub sleep in their den.

The solstice brings the shortest day.
The sun now starts its northward climb,
But January's on its way,
And winter still must serve its time.

The skis and skates are all brought out
For those who like the outdoor sport.
For indoor fun, there is no doubt,
It's basketball, out on the court.

At Christmas time, through ice and snow,
We search to find a Christmas tree,
And though the north wind starts to blow,
That task enjoyed by family.

At night we find the cat and dog
Beside the wood stove - safe and warm.
The fireplace needs another log
While outside there's a raging storm.

That extra blanket on the bed
Will keep us warm throughout the night,
Right after bedtime prayers are said,
And we crawl in and douse the light.

Some winter nights, in Downeast Maine,
When those brief sunlight hours fade,
A full moon shines through window pane,
Displaying art that Jack Frost made.

We'll dream of warmer days to come,
But when the rooster crows at dawn,
Arising will be troublesome
Until we get our woolens on.

A hot breakfast awaits us now
As we descend those well worn stairs.
We all fill up on morning chow,
The fuel for the day's affairs.

And as we greet that morning sun,
And squint our eyes against the glare,
The dog enjoys his morning run
And rolls in snow without a care.

So as I gaze upon that scene,
Of sparkling gemstones in the snow,
Last night did God come down to clean?
I honestly would like to know.

Awe, obviously this wasn't one you just wrote out of the blue, dear old friend I haven't seen in ages. First of all, how have you been? Second, it's not too often I get a whole poem for a review. But what a lovely poem it was.

Actually in Maine, it get's almost as cold as here. Some polls will say that Maine is in the top five but others not. I've been there in the winter and I know it is terribly cold. So love your poem. Mine was just a little light hearted rant against winter. Nothing serious.. thank you so much for sharing with me. It was good to see you again, Paul. Love, Debi
