Oh my! What a statement! I hope the perception of the chains were mutual. Sometimes just one side feels being trapped. A story well told in just a 5-7-5 poem!

When a relationship goes bad and all that is left is feeling cornered and chained to sadness, the signing of the name on the bottom line can definitely feel like freedom and life begins again.

Sadly true, but separation/divorce is much better than staying in a bad relationship.

I guess the poem must be about other folk... pretty sure you will know, or know of, people who have divorced.

Thanks, Cecilia. I've had a version of the first two lines in my head for a while and was seeking in vain for a deep, wise and philosophical ending. Then inspiration struck - it was crying out for a twist to something more playful.
