This is a really cute story. It is exactly the way I would feel about going in a cave at this stage of my live. I'd take the Best Western any day of the week cave hunting for treasure.

The desire for adventure is still there, but the body says," Are you nuts?" Thanks for the read. Karen

I still feel OK, but I doubt I'll take up a new career as a mountain climber, or go into the draft for the next football placement, so I don't blame you Karen, anyhow, well done with this very entertaining. Articulate narrative, well done, blessings Roy

Hear, hear! Yes, not cave spelunking for women who want to keep alive and healthy in their -ahem- older years. Good for Mildred for choosing wisely. Hope Marilyn sees this one! Best wishes in the contest!

When I was younger, I would have put on my waders and gone. But those years are gone. I can watch with rapt attention from afar., under my heated blanket. Thanks for the read. Karen

I was an adventurous kid whenever I was well enough. Momma said it was as if I forgot I wasn't really well. I said when I am well, I am not sick, so, off I would go. Now it is in my head, o on paper, and on the computer taht i go places and see things. Thanks for the read. karen

That makes perfect sense! It sounds like from a young age you never let limitations define you...

I enjoyed your story. I like how you fleshed out the main character and seemed to give her a full history by talking about how she was when she was younger. This was very interesting. Gretchen

My muse kept nagging me to write. I reviewed about half of the list. I still have about 100 to go. I owe you six. I will see you later. Thanks for the read. Karen

Well, I guess Marilyn will find treasure and adventure the safe way. In her dreams, while wrapped in a warm blanket.
A very reasonable main character. It's about time a protagonist did something normal, and what most older people would do.
Good entry.

I am not pushing myself to be something I am not. No amount of plastic surgery, makeup, fancy wardrobe, or expensive herbal supplements will change your age. I have my writing and daydreams for swashbuckling with pirates.
Reality is slightly different:-) Thanks for the read. Karen

That Best Western makes sense. Jean Lafitte's treasure could be anywhere as he was a very busy pirate/colonial fighter. Marilyn may be a little disappointed in her, however.

The adventure of it all carried her past the reality of the situation. I do not push myself past my abilities to satisfy others anymore. I thank you for the read. I loved old Errol Flynn pirate movies. Karen

I like it. You wrote a terrific story, hitting the realities of old age perfectly - though I would do it even if only for the adventure and I'm 73.
Good luck in the contest.

Your body likes you Mr. Mcbragbrag. I am happy for you.
I hope it always likes you. Mine gave me fits all my life. I spent every good day to the full. I have some good memories. I held on to the good with both hands. Thanks for the read. I really do think if my distant couson Jean buried treasure it would be in Galveston. Karen

I liked reading this contest prompt entry about a cave. It sounds like Mildred and Marilyn used to have the same energy level, but Mildred is more content to stay at home or in a hotel room now. I wonder if Jean Lafitte really is a distant relative, ha ha.
Little suggestions:
She is a sweet lady, and yes. I could certainly use the money, but, he stole it to begin with.
I would suggest punctuating it like this:
She is a sweet lady, and yes, I could certainly use the money, but he stole it to begin with.
I would bet, it would be in Galveston.
I think you can take out the comma after bet.

I went back and edited, thank you so much for the read and the careful review. I appreciate your time. And Jean Lafitte is actually a distant relative. :-)
