What a wonderful knowledge and appreciation of birdlife you have here! All beautifully incorporated in your mountain morning meeting verse and complemented with your fine visual. I'm afraid I've never heard of flickers, kinglets, steller's jays but thank you so much for this delightful, informative post which cheers the heart! Good luck! Debbie

You poem is filled with so many wonderful birds here Crystie, how delightful it must be to hear the sounds of all these beautiful birds all looking for lunch together. This is a magical free-verse for the contest, love Dolly x x x

An excellent post Crystie, you are a deft and thougyfuo writer who sees things many others don't. Your writing is always theme heavy and a very observant language rich post, well done, blessings Roy

Thank you for your nice review. I didn't have much of a theme here --just birds in general, ha ha, and what they might eat.

The Speaker in this poem is obviously a bird lover who lists the many types of birds one will see at Silver Lake on an Autumn day. I especially like the description of the Steelers . jays. Indeed, it would wonderful to observe so many species.

Thank you for your super review and the part you liked. This time of year we could probably all do with a little trip to see nature in autumn time.

An excellent entry for the Free Verse poem contest. My goodness, I think you have named every possible bird in that area and they sound amazing. The birds are migrating out from around here and I will miss their early morning songs. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you for your super review. Yeah, migration time is coming up! The blue jays will stick around, though, and some of the others.

What a delightful poem! I especially liked your portrait of the Steller's jay: "Dark, alert eyes under grandfather-white brows
seem both regal and roguish."
You captured their behavior perfectly!
Best wishes in the contest!
Suggestion: In the list of berries, you could make each a single word:
Purple elder berries and service berries, reddish goose berries tempt
(...elderberries...serviceberries...gooseberries...)

You have abundance of beauty there in the place you were writing about, and I very much enjoyed listening to it. I can't imagine the sound of all of those beautiful birds and the sites of all the landscaping. Patricia.

I can tell by the feelings that I get from your free verse poem that you are a bird lover. A very smooth free verse poem that brings out visuals of spring. Well composed.
