Hi Norman,
This is a well done poem that is full of emotion. It shows how deep grief can be. Without your notes, I would have thought it was about a person losing their spouse to cancer.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have a great day.
Joan

After reading the notes, I had to go back and read the poem again which fused a stronger emotion to the lines, more in the sense of a story with a heart and lesson. Appreciate this as an important contribution with rhyme.

Your poem captures the deep sense of loss and haunting nostalgia that comes with losing a close friend. The rhyme scheme and rhythm give it a classic, almost timeless quality, which works well with the theme of being haunted by memories.

Tobacco kills and it is too bad people still start to smoke knowing how dangerous they can be. No one really enjoys it at first. It is easier to understand drug, especially perscription drugs that help with pain. They kill too but the pain is hard to bear. I like your poem. It is very well written I know a several sets of identical twins than one died and the other feels lost and haunted by memories.

Thank you. I do not personally know any twins, but I can certainly see how that connection would be so strong.

This was such a touching poem and a wonderful tribute to your friend who was taken too soon through illness.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope that someday you won't feel so haunted and in pain from her memory but happy in your heart with the beautiful memories you have had the pleasure to have with her.
Take care and well done

Thank you for your review comments, but I was only an observer of the friendship. I was a friend to them both, but was not nearly that close. I wrote the poem as a tribute to their incredible friendship.

A powerful visual which you complement well in your rhyming verse! Your story about a close friend's death is very poignantly conveyed here and your echoing line "I am haunted by your memory" drives home the utter waste of a life cut short through heavy smoking. That death leaves behind friends and family and the frustrating fact is that it's so often avoidable. You send out your message loud and clear here, Nomi, versed in your eloquent and ultimately wounded words of loss and sadness. Well done! Debbie

Thank you my friend. Please allow me to clear up a common mistake that has occurred among my reviewers. I was an observer of the friendship. I was close to them but not nearly as close as the two of them were to each other. This poem is a tribute to that incredible friendship.

Beautifully said, Nomi! And your words resonated in me as I have good friends who are smokers and I know I can't make them stop. They have to stop on their own with God's help. I especially liked:
"My instincts, I can no longer trust,
Around my heart is an icy crust "

Both of my parents were smokers. Lost both to lung related issues. It's a terrible way to go. Breathing affects everything. Your poem was a beautiful yet melancholy reflection of a friendship that ended too soon. Gretchen
