I enjoyed your humorous writing a lot. Did the cream work for your back? I hope so! Matt sounds like a man of great courage, and it would be good to complete a book of his stories. He would enjoy that to, and that would be a meaningful project for him. to work on with you. Well told story.

Hello Wendy,
thanks so much for the great review gal. The cream only works for a very short time. I've been sitting down with an ice pack, and when I get in the car, I use the heated seat. Nothing seems to really solve the problem, and it's gotten worse in the past few weeks. Of course getting in to see a doctor is a challenge, since there are fewer and fewer doctors and more and more patients. I honestly don't know how people deal with chronic pain all the time.
Have a blessed day gal.

A humorous write about that topical cream that is cold when applied but gives relief. I laughed at your comparison to leaving milk out of the fridge. Also enjoyed the bit about TP which can be pretty useless for some things.
I'll be anxious to hear more about legless Matt!

Hello Shari,
thanks so much for the wonderful review and comments gal. I'm glad you enjoyed this. Matthew has had so many medical issues that several different doctors remarked that he should have been dead. When he was working up on Prudhoe Bay, I think he got food poisoning or some such thing. Anyway, I believe he got sick and they gave him some powerful antibiotic which caused his kidneys to shut down, so he's on dialysis. He had diabetes and I think that's why he lost his first leg. Then he had part of his stomach taken out so he could lose weight, so he could qualify for a new kidney. The weight loss caused his prosthetic to get loose and rubbed his stump and it got infected and he had to have some more of it trimmed off. While he was in the hospital, they took him to dialysis and he fell asleep and they couldn't revive him. They gave him CPR and broke his clavicle, and then discovered he had a heart issue. They medivacked him down to Seattle where they opened him up, but he got some kind of infection in the mesh that they used for his heart. As of now, he's supposed to return to Seattle because the breast bone isn't coming together like it should and they're supposed to fix his clavicle, though I don't know how they do that. Through it all, he's had the best attitude of anyone I've ever known, and on top of that he's very funny. He was talking about putting white sox on his stumps and doing a puppet show. Sorry for the long answer, but that's the story in part, of his life.
Have a blessed evening.

Bless his heart. I would be so depressed if that were my lot. He has mountains of faith for sure. I hope he writes his story.

I'm working on it for him. He's got a lot to say for sure.

Good for you!

Great title for the book and a good idea to record the stories. I used a friend's Christmas letters which always told a story about his life and created a book for him. He sold over two hundred copies before he passed away and enjoyed every minute of it. Your friend's stories might have more commercial value. Lidocaine does ease pain, but not all that much.

Hi Carol,
thanks so much for the great review gal. I think that's wonderful that you made a book for your friend. You're right about the pain relief, it's really temporary. I don't know what's going on with my back right now, but I'm sick of it.
Have a blessed evening gal.

Oh my word Tom, I think I'd much rather have hemorrhoids. It seems the older we get the less dignity we're able to hold onto because our bodies seem to want to develop embarrassing symptoms. I need to see what's going on with my back, I'm tired of dealing with it.
Have a blessed evening.

This sounds like a practical story that points out Preparation H can be used for more than...well, you know. Humorous slice-of-life and down-to-earth account. Thank you for posting.

Hello CC,
Well, I guess if you have some piles to drive, the Preparation H pile driving company will come to your service, although I guess under a different name. The ointment works good for it's desired capacity, but this cream I've got is pretty short lived. Maybe on hemorrhoids it lasts longer, but I'd rather not find out. I read once in a book that junkies used to use Preparation H on the needle marks because it would reduce the size of the marks. I wonder how it works on zits.
Have a blessed evening gal.

Loved your post, Tom! Your humor is so fun. I enjoyed the TP comment per those directions on the tube. And I liked "I wonder if they tried Preparations A through G". And I think Preparation H is great for pilings as well as for piles. That company doesn't have a sense of humor if they want the small pilings company in Hoonah to stop using their brand name!
Hope you write that Book of Matthew!

Hello Helen,
thanks so much for the encouraging review my friend. I agree that it was kind of small minded about the corporation to come down on the pile driving company. I'm working on the book, at least I'm interviewing Matt. He's got a lot to say. He lived on a number of different farms in The Move and experienced a whole range of situations. When his folks left the Catholic church in search of a different place to worship, they were led into a meeting with Jim Jones. Fortunately they didn't stay. What a life.
Have a blessed evening gal.

So scary about the encounter with Jim Jones! When I was at Berkeley we shared Christian study pamphlets by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at a table on the main plaza. Next to us were all many of cults like People's Temple, Moonies, and even a Buddhist temple... So many hungry souls seeking and lost!
-
You're right Helen. I imagine you would be hard pressed to set up a Christian table at Berkley now. I had forgotten about the Moonies. There was some Eastern religion as I recall some years ago that more or less took over a town in Oregon. As you say, lots of people are searching for some meaning.
-
Oh, yes, those Rajnishi - which was doing all kinds of illegal tax things.
Don't give up hope, Tom. There are Christian student groups meeting even at Berkeley! Just look at this website:
https://uic.studentorg.berkeley.edu/orgs.html
There is a real revival going on all over college campuses around the country. Please pray for them!

Hi Marilyn,
thanks so much for the delightful review gal. It's going to be a winter project once I get all the stories down from Matt. One reason I wanted to do this is we all thought he was going to die a few months back. The doctors basically said to say goodbye to him, prior to catching a medivac flight to Seattle. He's quite an entertaining guy, and I'm so blessed to have him as a friend.
Have a blessed evening gal.

Well, whatever works I guess, for your back, his stump, or the old Kester. Sounds like your buddy has had more than his fair share of problems. Glad he has a good friend to come hang out with him. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Ric,
Listening to Matt, I'm totally convinced that life on this earth is not fair. He's such a nice guy, and very funny. All of the staff at Maple Springs, where he's staying love him. He and I were discussing decorating some white sox with faces and having him do a puppet show with his stumps. We'll see if it happens. I hope so.
Have a blessed evening my friend.
Tom
