-Very good artwork and presentation, Pam.
-You wrote a very good poem with
effective imagery and rhyme.
-Good progression from beginning to end.
-You paint a vivid word picture of this man's life.
-He pursues knowledge, avoids feelings, and
wants to make a lot of money.
-But now he is alone, "emotions go into the trash."
-A very good comparison to the bird and
a very good concluding verse with a very good
message: don't keep your feelings bottled up inside.
Too many people do, and it isn't healthy, but hopefully
it is changing with each generation.
-Very well done.

hi Pam. I agree with you that newer generations might avoid this issue. My husband was very emotional and he died at 76 last year. He was born in 1946. He would cry at movies. He would cry usually when he was happy. He would cry when I threatened to leave him
Hopefully future generations won't be illegal so to speak for men to cry even in public

Thank you for your wonderful comments and your excellent review

It is definitely never a good thing to suppress our emotions. I think what your poem also shows well is how quickly life passes. I would like to think, that when I reach the end of my life, that I don't have any regrets about things I never did. An excellent piece Pam.

The worst thing that one can do is to lock yourself away with all the lying assumptions that we are, I've been there were I've wanted to lock myself away from the crowd, but I have no right to do that, because we all bring something to the table. Beautiful theme. And expertly scribed as ever Pam, blessings Roy

Sadly, some people, like this man inyour poem, only find out when it is too late, that the greatest gifts are the people in your life. You've shown that well through this poem, Pam. Nicely done,
cheers,
valda

Well this is quite a poem. Frankly I don't know what to think about it. It's a good poem that takes us from the womb to the tomb. I guess I would like to ask you if you are saying this is the average man, or typical man? I Heard it many times that women are more emotional than men. I guess my sample size is pretty small concerning this man and what emotions he withheld or failed to express. I mentioned this with the backdrop of having been told by a college professor that according to her tests I was off the chart emotional. I really didn't want to think that was true.

I can see in the words you used that this man in your poem suppressed his emotions his whole life. When he realizes it he's too late. Time is a thief and before you know it your life is over. Excellent poem.

There is an abundance of truth in your poem. Thank you for reminding us that our emotions are a gift, just as our mind and our talents are blessings that should not be denied. Well done!

This is a brief but interesting depiction of one man's life here on earth. Your poem sweeps us so swiftly through his time that it seems over almost before it has begun.

In many ways you show a wasted life, a man with some talent and wisdom, but one who shuts out emotion in favour of 'cash'. The message is clear but somehow your piece leaves me longing for more depth, perhaps a closer examination of what makes this man tick.

I did have a longer version of this poem, but people complain that my poems are too long, so I shortened it. Thank you for your thought provoking review

This poem, The Reformed Man, presented with six AABB-rhymed quatrains, tells the sad tale of someone who chose himself over the world and now lies alone and forgotten.

This is well crafted and gives the reader advice to never hide their feelings as the old man did in the picture. By the way, who is that man in the picture? He looks eerily familiar. I know you said you got it from Google but who did they take it from?
The meaning is quite simple don't hide your feelings inside. Thanks for the good advice.

I don't know who the old man is. I just grabbed it off of Google.

Thank you for your wonderful comments, Jesse

He looks like an old character actor from the western movies. I just don't remember his name.
Google doesn't own him, you know.
Give credit where credit is due.

I googled forlorn old men, and it just showed the photos not who they were

I went back to the Internet and found a photo and it doesn't say who he is just so you know, grandfather

That is sad. People lose their identity on the internet.
