I'm enjoying this story. I 've read a lot of Amish books to, and I my friend and I used to go the Amish store to buy produce. I've got a lot of pictures I've taken from the car when I don't think they knew they were being photographed. The men seem friendly enough, but I've not had any interaction with the women. They have sign in their store with a dress code. No shorts nor low cut dresses.

Oh, wow! Really!! I bet that cuts down on their customer numbers!
Did you read the Linda Castillo books? I really enjoyed them.

I read all of the Beverly Lewis books and I think I read some by her as well.
One of authors was Minonite.

Again, I'm laughing. I require more than four hours of sleep, but I'm an early riser and love watching the sunrise and Mother Nature wake up. I am really enjoying this story and can't wait for more.

Oh, how I love you for saying that, Barbara!! It means the world to me!
I'm curious how many of us on this site are early-risers! It would be interesting to know if it's a "writer" thing.

It may be. My husband is not an early riser, but we've made it work.

I like that you slyly left the door open for another adventure. I love how you keep shocking them with knowledge about their culture. The way you describe their reaction seems genuine. And, I will tell you, I read and re-read the description of the morning sky . You took my breath away with that. I am trying to get a couple of time sensitive things completed right now but should be posting in an hour. Great chapter. Gretchen

When YOU tell me something nice about my writing, it means the world because I admire your storytelling talents so very much. Thank you for your generous words here. Looking forward to the other half of this chapter!! xoxo

Once again, another excellent chapter to your tale.
Super sensory descriptions within. Love the rooster.
Good dialogue throughout that moves the story along.
Also well used tags.
Thank you!

This is a very encouraging review! Thank you for all the "specifics" you mention because that helps enormously. Knowing what stands out to a reader and what "lands" really matters. xoxox

Funny how you being a four hour sleeper stands out in this adventure. I kept thinking "there's nothing fictitious about this part of the story. This is the real Rachelle." And another thing that stands out is your mother's comment. Thanks for including this in the notes. She is as funny as you are.
Your tongue in cheek style is strong in this chapter. I love the entire premise where you pit you against the Amish. What a contrast! Had to be a great chapter.
I love this. I've got to go back and read missing chapters. I look forward to it.
Keep 'em coming.

I just love that you're along on this journey!! You're one of my favorites on here, so that means the world. Thanks for the fun review.
And, yes, my mother had a million comments like that. Another classic was: "It's not that bad things happen in threes, it's that after three, you stop counting."

Well, well. Do the city girls run or freeze? Do they get saved (again) by Amish boys?
Four hours sleep is not very much. I function best with six... and really glad when I manage to get them.
Best wishes.

City girl raised in the country, though, don't forget!! Six is what Pam Lonsdale gets. Do you do the same six every night? Are you on a schedule, or do you wait until you're tired to head to bed? And what prevents you from sleeping? Inquiring minds want to know!!!
-
I knew I should not have said 'city girl'. Sorry. (smiley face here)
I like to match my wife's going to bed schedule. Sometimes I'm up 3-4 hours later - just done. I'm a bit too (stuff deleted here) if I get over six. (grinny face here)
I enjoy getting up early - coffee on the deck star gazing, but it sure gets aggravating waiting for the entire world to wake up and get going.
(I watched eleven satellites all equally distanced about a hand width apart the other night. I might have missed earlier ones. They were on an L.A. to NYC trajectory. Made me wonder if we were at war and I didn't even know it.)

That thought would certainly keep me awake!! YIIIIIKES!
I went to Alexandria Bay last summer with a friend of mine for a couple nights, and I was FLABBERGASTED at how late everyone there got started! A water/tourist town like that, and boat tours weren't started until ten a.m.!! Can you imagine? And the hotel pool didn't open until eleven! Like, WHAT?? What did people with kids DO?!! So I feel your pain "waiting for the world" to get in gear with you!

Another wonderful post that puts the reader directly in the middle of the "soup" so to speak. It's so interesting to learn these bits and pieces about their life style and to see them as "people" - not strange or weird - just normal, happy people. Great job!

Thank you! This was such a nice review. I appreciate your letting me know what "landed" with you, as a reader. That helps immensely as we go forth with our tale. xo
Comment from Pam Lonsdale
I assume there's no coffee available, or I'd be there with you at 4:00 a.m., enjoying the sunrise and the sweet smell of goat dung in the air:-)
This sentence: Finally, the tiniest strands of variegated plums and maroons begin to unravel themselves from the horizon, like a fraying ribbon. Am I reading prose or poetry here? Beautiful.
You never know when those books on Amish chiefs of police will come in handy, huh?
I'm predicting that Jewish Mommie is going to host a certain young Amish girl and her friend for Rumspringa:-)
I'm enjoying all the information you offered us here on the Amish ways, and I'm sure Gretchen will appreciate your depiction of her as a bed-headed tyrant who screams at poor, defenseless roosters.
A great chapter in this book.
xoxo

Hey, if I can wear toilet-y corn cobs, she can have some less-than-glamorous moments, too!!
Thanks for the delightful-as-always review. I always look forward to what your assessments are. xoxo
