I didn't my courting in the house with my parents but when my own children started dating, I got a whole lot more concerned when I didn't hear noise. I preferred the laughing and that tallking. I was when thing got really quite i knew there was likely something happening, I needed to check on. I enjoy your and you music.

"civilized teens of the fifties" Ah, those baby-boomer youths. Were they civilized? Mmm, I guess so--somewhat.
"speak softly love
so no one hears us in the parlor" Ah, that good naughty etiquette.
Good reading flow and abcb rhyme scheme.
Nice snapshot of youth-lovers' etiquette of that era.

I wasn't dating in the fifties...but I recall the music, and vaguely wondered what my older brother was doing in the parlor with his "girl" -- Mary Jane!
I DO know my father gave them about fifteen minutes and then made a big racket as he marched through the parlor on the way to the kitchen "for a snack."

It worked, every time! Mary Jane would be on her way and my brother would look (oddly) sad...

Smile.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

The Fifties are also known for teenage rebellion and some club fighting which picked up through out thr sixties and beyond rock and roll and other things that eventually would be recognized and frown upon as times and teens continued to change. Thanks for the walk back down memory lane

This is a sweet poem, those times were so much more innocent, the youth of today are miles different. Those really were the days , I was born in late 70s myself and even back in the early 80s as teens we were innocent then too. Great poem, thanks for sharing

I loved the music and style of this era. My parents grew up in the fifties and enjoyed all it offered. It's a brilliantly crafted piece; thank you for sharing.
God bless,
Steve

Jim, This is a really nice and well written poem about the teens of the 50's. They really were not as wild as teens are today. You used great descriptive words and neat video. Blessings, Teri

I can't figure out if this is funny or sweet. Maybe it's both? This definitely isn't how teens are now, that's for sure. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Many thanks! I guess if you can be sweet and sometimes funny, this poem can be, also.

Thank you for sharing this adorable poem with us and the video. Both were fun for a complete presentation. Although I remember the song, I was only 5 in 1959.
