Hi Victor, I really liked this wee poem which is a tribute to your muse. But I also see it as a tribute to a cat which is such a gracious creature. I've had cats all my life. My present cat gives me much inspiration and reason to smile. Ulla:)))

Careful, Victor, folks may think you're talking about this fine cat in your artwork, lol. I however wish I had six stars for this brilliant piece, my friend, definitely worthy. A welcome mat means so much for than just a wipe of ones feet. The opening and closing ties this brilliant piece perfectly.
God bless,
Steve

Thank you. No, I don't have a cat, but my girlfriend had two living here. Unfortunately, they have passed. I wasn't going to mention this, for fear of embarrassing my friends on Fanstory who have reviewed this. But, the poem is dedicated to my girlfriend.
Still, the cat does look charming, does it not?
Smiles,
Doug

I thought perhaps the "bruises"
would give it away for people.
-
Hmmm, for some strange reason, I read right over that. I think maybe because i enjoyed the photo so much and it captured my attention.
-
No problem. I kind of viewed the cat as myself, waiting for someone.

LOL

A sweet image complemented with a loving free verse dedicated to your cat. That really is an honour that you present yourself as a doormat:)) He/she is one lucky cat. Well done! Debbie

And most of all
for the tenderness
with which you
walk upon it,
We gladly think of the cat in the photograph, and ponder the love we feel for others.

Six stars are for the caring thoughtful way you place each word on the page. I always look forward to your poem, my friend. You show tenderness and empathy for others in every post you gently place on this site. I know where you are coming from and I care where you are headed. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, feelings, and all the muse you choose to use.

The door mat...the welcoming cloth asking people to come in is actually more than that....It's adorned by our lovely pets who are eager to welcome us too. The doormat is filled with love... come in, sit down, let's be friends.

I like this a lot. Some people can bruise us ever so slightly in their work to improve us and bring out our best (because everyone knows change can be painful), but they're so tender with the approach that we welcome them again and again. You did a really fine job with this one. Thank you for the read and depth of thought this morning. xoxo

Rachelle, what a great "take" on this poem. You have it essentially right. I mean no disrespect. Let me explain=I have learned more from reviewer's interpretations of my poems, than I have ever considered as the author. For instance, several reviewers saw this poem as a tribute to my cat (picture with poem). Even though I have never owned a cat. Are they stupid? No, the ignorance was mine. It is a perfectly plausible interpretation of the poem. But I never dreamt of anyone interpreting as such.
Now, to your interpretation-
wonderful, loved it. I think I like it better than my original idea. Seriously. I wrote this poem as a message to my girlfriend. We are having some relationship difficulties at the moment. And I thought it might help to recognize her and her attributes, such as the tenderness she walks with while walking all over me.
See? Lol. Just some biting sarcasm with the last line, to lighten the current drama.
Ok, I'm sure you've has enough by now. So, I bid you adieu for now. I'm sure we'll meet again.
-
I love that you shared your meaning. Thanks for that - and I hope your rough patch smooths out very soon. Xo
