This girl sound very lucky to have had you for a teacher. You made her shower special by putting some much thought into your gift for her. I'll bet you were a favorite teacher for those in your class. You're creative and fun loving and who wouldn't want to be your student. I can only imagine how you must have felt, and still feel, as you put together the treasure box for your beloved student. And there is no doubt in my mind that your former student loved it equally as well.

But I must admit that throughout I was trying to relate - meeting the awkward sandlot kid that you'd mentored and carried on your team 10-15 years later. He was home from Marine Corps boot camp following your footsteps, or he was drafted by a contending baseball team and pulled directly into the major league, or he knocked out the mean guy who was bullying the neighborhood. Something like that. (smiley face here)

Very excellent writing, of course.
