HI Rachelle,
Your poem and the quote define what true belief is. You need to walk the walk and not just talk the talk.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Have a nice new week.

For whatever reason, I'm surprised that Cory Booker said that. But maybe that just shows that I didn't know Cory Booker as well as I thought I did. I believe what he said to be true and I try to practice that in my life. (Please don't tell anybody this but, sometimes I fail to practice what I would truthfully tell you I believe. I think your admonition to me is what I need to hear and put into practice. Thanks.

Pssst - Same. Everyone, of course, is guilty of this occasionally. It's that "steady diet" thing that just slays me - the people who constantly crow, "I am a Christian." Like, just saying it somehow absolves them of anything further and puts them above reproach if their actions aren't in line with that and someone points that out.
Anyway, thank you for the terrific review. It means a lot, Dr. Nad. xo

You are most welcome my friend.

I so agree with your words here Rachelle, we hear people spouting about their religious beliefs and how they are so Godly, but we know the truth in people's actions. I have know heroes who never brag about their belief in God, but you can see in how they live the kind of people they are. This is such a poignant post, love Dolly x x x

I really appreciate your words, Dolly. The ones who spout off, "I'm a Christian" are always the ones who make me wary. They're right up there with the politicians who assure us, "You can trust me." Yeah, riiiiiight!
Thanks for the nice review. xo

AMEN!!! I have known many Christians who can talk the talk but are unable to walk the talk. Those Christian do a lot of damage to those people who are searching for something. Thank you for sharing. This is an important message.

I could not agree more. For me, the ones who give me immediate red flags are the ones who can't say or write enough times, "I'm a Christian." Ah-OOOOO-gah!!!

So well said! Show faith by your works. I just listened to a sermon on healing shame. Not just confessing our private sins to God, for which He forgives, but the necessity of confessing to our Christian brothers and sisters so we can be healed as we pray for each other. Esther

This was a great message in poem form. I especially like how you emphasized "show." You got the syllable count right for a 5-7-5, as well. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Yes, those who set themselves up as models of rectitude have to be careful to practice what they preach. When they make a big show of their virtue, they leave themselves open to scrutiny. Wise words from Cory Booker. By your works shall you be known. I like that you applied the show, not tell, idea to both writing and morality. Good one! judi

Thanks, Judi; I appreciate that.
The most sanctimonious ones are those I trust the least - the ones who make a point of saying (and doing so quite frequently), "I'm a Christian." IMMEDIATE red flag whenever I hear (or read) that!

There have been many stories about preachers who have not lived up to what they preach. I'll send you a PM or an email for updates on your situation. judi

Thank you for that. xo

This 5-7-5, The Common Bond, has the proper formatting and speaks to the even simpler concept that we should walk the walk we talk. Nowadays we settle for the idea that we should believe nothing we hear and only half of what we see.

Rachelle,
Your words say so much.
There's so much hypocrisy in the "Christian" world, it's difficult to find good Christians who preach "Love," and not hate.
But compassionate Christian's are alive and well. I've met a few in my lifetime.
Good luck with your bold statement.

The ones who make me especially wary are the ones who let people know so - ad nauseum more times than not - by using the words, "I'm a Christian." Ah-OOOO-gah!! Danger! Danger!
Thanks for the affirming review. It means a lot. xo

Good morning, Rachelle,
What a powerful poetic offering to greet me this morning.
Religions/Writing can both often possess a duplicitous nature: incredibly powerful as well as incredibly destructive.
Throughout time, individuals have hidden behind their religious beliefs, and in the name of said beliefs, held themselves to be better than their fellow man, or worse yet, persecuted their fellow man.
And with the advent of social media, and the anonymity it affords, said practices continue.
A lot to think about in only 17 syllables.
Thank you for sharing!
