Omigoodness!! This is absolutely adorable! I had the BEST time reading this this morning. And okay, I don't know how, but you made the dialogue really believable -- when they're freaking ZEBRAS? What?! But of course the fun and talented writer you are knew exactly how.
This was entertaining beyond words - plus informative, too! I could see it being a great children's book because it's also TRUE! (well, you know...)
Thank you for the most enjoyable way to spend part of my morning today. xoxo

Well, it's just one step further on than reading the mind of my dog! Lol. I am so pleased you enjoyed it and it gave you a smile. Next time you cross at a zebra crossing, you'll think of this story. All passers-by will wonder why you are smiling so broadly! If it was to be a children's book, I'd probably have to take out the bit about pub crawls. Lol. Thank you so much for the six stars (very unexpected, but very pleasing!) I'm grateful.

Love the zebra crawl. Fun writing from someone who's still young at heart. Where I live we just call them crosswalks. I enjoyed this little flash fiction account. I'm thinking Disney or Pixar might need to see this. Gretchen

Lol. I have never done a pub crawl in my life, but thought it would be fun to include, but if it was something for kids I'd probably have to remove it! Thanks so much for your wonderful review, and for the six beautiful stars. I am very appreciative.

Good morning, Wendy. I'm glad their idea didn't backfire on them, and they didn't lose their chance to go to the country because they were bad zebras. Of course, they wanted to investigate, have an adventure, and possibly a little fun. And all the attention didn't hurt either. Well done.

This is a hilarious and creative response to the club challenge. Yes, I'm familiar with zebra crossings and with the concept of pub crawling. Sans the public crawling aspect I can see this as a children's book.
Thanks for sharing, Wendy.
Blessings, Julia
I changed my profile picture to include Finny.

Thank you so much Julia. Yes, I think the pub crawls would need to be eliminated if it were to become a book for little ones. Lol. I appreciate your time and review.

Wendy, your story flash put a smile on my face. In general, it is said Aussie's love animals, and your story is a fine example of it.
I believe more in animal refuges, not zoos, but if that's one way of preserving animal species, then that's ok.
(In my part of PA, we have to watch out for black bears and raccoons)ð???
Very nice story, Wendy.
Good luck,
Cindy

We have one in the country which is called a zoo, but is actually a refuge. All the animals roam free. People drive by in carriages or carts, or cycle around - but it's the people who are fenced off! It's super. Thanks so much for reviewing. Always much appreciated.

Cute, but I worry for ZED and Stripe going to where "no zebra has gone before" (Star Trek) to a savannah where (gulp) lions may roar. They wouldn't know what to do perhaps, and instead of enjoying a relaxing lunch might in fact be lunch.

Lol. They will probably have their own acreage away from the lions. No need to worry, we Aussies think of everything for their well-being. Thanks for reviewing.

Pub crawls are a big thing in St. Augustine, too. You can even bring your dog on some of them:-)
What a great take on this flash fiction prompt; I read Helen's last week, and I love how your stories are similar but different.
Now I will refer to these crossings as "zebra crossings" myself:-)
Thanks for sharing, Wendy.

Yes, it?s hard to come up with different reasons for why zebras run away (apart from the obvious). I hope my story was different enough. Thanks so much for reviewing.

Zebra crossings, huh? Is this based on a true story?
I tried to come up with an American alternative, like military crossing (hash marks) with military discipline and precision. But cross traffic going both ways stopped that cold.
Best wishes.

To my knowledge, none have escaped in Australia, so my story is completely fiction (especially because we know zebras can?t talk. Lol!) But the club prompt was about zebras which escaped from a zoo in South Korea, and I believe there was another escape from a zoo in the US. And we had to write about why zebras ran away.
Thanks so much Wayne. I liked your review!
