AMEN, AMEN, AMEN!! Our country, our citizens, our government has made mistakes, but we've accomplished so much. We've been blessed beyond anything imagine. I am proud to be an American. I am proud to pay my fair share in taxes. I am proud when I hear National anthem or God Bless American. I am proud to share our democracy with others and share in protecting other democracies. We, the people, are responsible for what happens in our country and it is so important to voice our opinions, backed up by voting our hears.
Thanks, Nomi, for super post. It's the last one I am reading tonight and it's good to stop on a high note. By the way, I think you need to check the spelling in Marilyn Monroe. Good job ann

Thank you brother. I want to tell you a side story I have not shared with many. When I shipped out for overseas duty, I was booked passage on a train where I was the only black on the entire train. This was in 1961. During the trip I was fed in a restaurant that did not serve blacks. Needless to say, when I went overseas, I had a wonderful mindset about my life in the USA. I was approached by a communist while overseas who tried to get me to say something negative about the US. I laughed in his face. Despite all the bad things this country has done to black people, it is still the best place for us in my humble opinion. Thanks for listening to my rant.

I think when we have to think about becoming part of a country, we appreciate it all the more. And one more thing - the US has taken in more refugees and given to other countries more than any other. God has been so gracious to our country and we should be proud and thankful for His grace to us. Thanks for reminding us to be thankful and be proud to be American!

It's lovely to see a proud and patriotic post, Nomi! There a lot of America bashing going on, not least as a result of frustrations regarding the presidential candidates. I'm English and am not fully conversant with US politics but I do know that we feel so much stronger with the US on our side. The relationship has always been a special one and will continue to be so. Your well expressed story celebrates the positives of American history and culture whilst recalling more regrettable aspects. Thank you, It is popular for black Americans to criticize the country, but I tell you, despite all our problems, I am very grateful to have been born here and to have spent the majority of my life here.

No country is without its faults and these are sometimes glaring, but they also have their successes. Nowhere is this more evident than in the United States of America. Its citizens can stand proud!

Absolutely. Actually most of its failures are not the country, but some of its less than honorable citizens.
