Well isn't that something!? I guess you could credit that sweetheart of a Roadrunner for catching your eye...and it's "allure" (along with Glen's) for finding your guy!

Fifty years married is something to crow about! Congratulations, Debi and Glen.

That car may have slipped out of your lives but together you grew in family and grandkids and....well what's more important than a lifetime of love and happiness with your spouse?

The big question is did he sign the car over to you once you said yes?

(Just kidding, smile)

May 18th will be here before you know it.

A big party I hope?

(I wonder of there is a Roadrunner "Matchbox" car you could wrap up and give to Glen?)

Great poem!

Karenina

Hi there, Sweet K, I thank you so very much for the kind words for our anniversary and for having some fun with me and my early years of shallow immature love for the car LOL. No big party. The kids wanted to but I said maybe go out somewhere nice, take our best friends, his sister and bil who stood up for us and my brother who is my hero of all time. Then maybe if my back and everything is better, maybe we can go away for a few days. I already have a bigger model of the car put away for him.
Thanks again, my very dear friend.

Getting away for a few days sounds dreamy! Definitely opt for that if all continues to improve with your health!

I'm so glad you were brought together by that car. It must have been so hard to sell it. But you got your lifelong love and a beautiful family and that is worth celebrating!! Congratulations and Happy 50th anniversary!!!

Hi Debi, Congratulations on your upcoming 50th Anniversary. Your poems takes us through your married life, starting with the green Roadrunner--beep, beep. Watch out world. Of special note:

And after we had dated, and together for a while
My love kept getting stronger, when I thought of them I'd smile

And:
He said my gift would be his car if I would just say yes

(Did he also give you a ring?)

Good rhyming. Well-chosen photo. Best wishes for 50 more years of bliss. Xo. M

Well, you've been with your man longer than the car, so I guess he wins the contest! Fifty years, huh? Same as us - I think we worked that out before.

Nice ramble through those fifty years, with plenty left out of course. Not that many who make it to that landmark thoug, so congratulations.

Steve

Debbie

You usually according to Bing Co-pilot, use more traditional meter and formats but this free verse format works well for this type of narrative love poem.

a lovely love poem recalling your love story and your first car together.

I too am blessed with meeting lots of people here on Fan Story and Writing Com. You have helped me become a stronger poet and writer. I might have added a line about what happened to the car? just curious.

but I liked the image that sums up the poem. oh, congratulations on being together for 50 years! We have been together for 42 years, but 50 if you count the eight years I spent looking for the mysterious lady in my dreams. Imagine my surprise when she walked off a bus and into my life! on September 7, 1982! We have had many cars since I didn't drive due to bad vision issues, and coordination issues, she has been the driver. and generally chose our cars.
I suppose my favorites were the first - a Korean pony, our Mustang convertible, and our Lexus convertible. I am looking forward to driverless cars.

Hi there, Jake. So good to see you again. Did Bing Co-pilot help you with this, because there is no free verse at all in my poem? Just curious.
Thanks for the kind comments tho, as I do appreciate it. I have always admired your story as well about your lovely wife and you meeting with a bus ordeal. Glen and I had dated for two years first.

As far as adding about what happened to the car, I couldn't for two reasons. It would have ruined the love story and it would have been too long. So I will tell you what happened.

My idiot husband, LOL, decided he would sell it to my little brother and I knew that he would crash it up. Sure enough within two weeks he did crash it and at that point I cared more about the car then I did about my brother..

I was mad at both of them. Denny, my lil brother was an irresponsible spoiled kid who partied too much and I knew that he would try to mimic my very careful husband's very careful racing tactics and try to show off.

Glen, my hubby was a pro. He babied that car, put it up on blocks every winter, and only raced it with expertise skill. That is why he was known as the fastest car to beat in central Mn at the time. Because he was smart. But i no longer thought my husband was so smart after he sold it to him.

I sure gave you the whole story didn't I? Hahaha! Now can you see why I couldn't put it in the poem? Even after all these years it still gets me going. LOL.
Thanks again Jake for your awesome review!

Great story/poem. And how wonderful you two have been married for 50 years. He must be deaf. I loved your love story. We were all attracted to the shiny cars the boys drove in those days - status symbols. Best wishes for the contest my dear friend! K xx

It's a good thing you didn't meet me at that age. Within a few years, I killed three cars, a couple more than once. Now, I safely drive in my wheelchair. Congratulations to your husband for having chosen a perfect wife for half a century!

Hey Debi, this is such a wonderful entry for the love poem poetry contest. I love how you were able to bring creativity and levity to the love story with the car, (and your wonderful husband.) LOL You continue to open windows of introspection for all of us to see the many facets of my sister Debi. (We might not know how fast the car went or how fast you would've want it to go but we do know that you love to go fast!) That's one more thing I love about you!
