Beth, This is a very cute dialogue between Rufus and Lyle. You used great descriptive words and a very neat picture that looked it could be Rufus and Lyle. I love they are feeding the ducks! Best wishes in the contest. love and blessings, Teri

Thank you so my Teri. I've used these guys before but it has been a while. Someone bought the picture to a writing group I was in for us to write about. I'm glafd you liked it.

I love them. Two good friends feeding the ducks every day. I agree with Lyle about groceries going up in price. Thinking they need a government grand to feed the ducks in hilarious!

Whether or not they really exist, the dialogue is realistic and cusses me to believe in their reality. A very good offering for this "Dialogue Only" contest. No typos or concerns. Hope you do well!

Thank you, Jim. The people in the picture are definitely real, but I'm pretty sure that isn't their names. I tried looking up the names on google and found their is someone named Rufus Lyle. I hope he doesn't read my story. He might be insulted. LOL

Aww that's great, Beth! I found myself reading the dialect out loud and could really have listened some more to these old timers (Will there be a follow-up?) I wondered if you meant 'there' in the second line instead of 'they.' And grocer(ie)s 6th line from the bottom? Beautiful presentation. Well done and good luck! Debbie

Thank you Debbie, I have used the guys before and will probably use them again. I like them for some reason. I grew up around people who taked this ways. They would often the word "they" in place of "there" but it didn't hurt to change it to there.

Great entry. Good work with the dialect. This addresses an important issue too--inflation! The last line is a hoot. Perfect photo to complement the piece. Good luck to both of us.

These are two funny characters. I don't recall reading about them before. The funniest line is when Lyle wants to make extra money but doesn't want to do anything that involves work. I enjoyed their realistic dialogue as they continue to figure out how to have more money. Best wishes in the contest.

Thank you the nice review. It has been nearly a year since I wrote about them. I think the first time was seven or eight years ago and it was a dialogue only contest. It was before I left FanStory for six years.

Sure let Lyle be your guinea pig to see what works, right Rufus? LOL!

Your author's notes make these two sound real, but since it's "fiction", I assume this is an occasional series for you, Beth?

A fun read and I wish you luck with the contest.

Thank you Pam. I've used them a couple of time before. Someone brought that picture to a meeting of a writing club I was for us to write a story about. I found them interesting. I appreciate the review.

... and knowing how Big G likes to spend money they didn't earn, ours, this pair will likely get a grant-in-aid or subsistence pay since the ducks being fed are likely immigrants from Canada. Even they know a good thing when received as our Canadian geese are year round residents, now.

Thank you Tom, this is funny about Canadian geese being immigrants from Canada and and possibly entitled to a grant. Thank for the review..

This is an excellent post Beth, you seemed to have got and written the accents well, and worked out what the aged and laconic elderly male is like with their somewhat limited wisdom and intellect is like. Well dine, a good job, blessings Roy
Typo : If I have to(o) 2: bread (curmbs) left, crumbs? 3: Rufus and Lyle are (neighbosr) neighbours?

Thank you Roy, I've been around characters like these so when I saw this picture, I was sure I would know how they might sound if I could hear them talk. Thanks so much for the review.
