Wow, Barry! I learned so much in your beautifully written poem. I'm not sure I completely understand how a place loses a river except for in a drought, and 11 of them! Pity the one here has become a sewer. Double Ouch!!
Sending you my best today as always, and a virtual six for this one.

Thanks Sally. Glad you liked it. the most common reason a river becomes "lost" is that the flow of the river is utilized for other purposes such as sewerage. There have been many moves to correct these problems but there is still a long way to go.
Take care and have a wonderful day.

A river runs through my backyard and I always feel blessed as it flows by, carrying it's mysteries. What a tragedy to have something so beautiful turned to waste and sewage.

That picture is amazing. Your poem created that gorgeous place in my mind then dumped it down a drain. Sad river. If I had my druthers I would live in a previous time where rivers ran free. Our Creator intended us to tend His earth not destroy it.
Do you live in London?

Esther, thanks for the review. It is a sad poem and reflects the many examples of the bad influences of civilization in general. Well we can only pray that there will be a reversal of thinking. Can keerp hoping I guess.
I live in Australia but have visited London several times. Still have family in England.
Take care and have a wonderful day.

I'll bet your poem is the only one ever written about the Effra. We had many rivers like that in Maine, but over the last fifty years there has been done much to clean things up.

Paul,
Thanks for your review. Maybe it is the only one. Well there should be a lot more attention to lost rivers around the globe. It is good to see that in your area things are improving. There is hope yet.
Regards
Barry

So sad that something that had some beautiful memories at one time, is now unnoticed as if it never existed. Great poem about this lost river. Good job Barry!

This read just PERFECTLY. I love nature so much and I feel so, so sad about how the human virus has decimated so much of what Earth has so generously given to us. It's very sad, indeed. Lovely writing, even if it is so sad.
