I really like this story. Alan is a good man with a real appreciation for kids. He had to be to teach and have the kids like him, and he is being a good friend to Tommy, who shares his problem with dyslexia.

Yeah, that's kind of the thing that drives the two of them so close together. Alan really "gets" Tommy and his problem.

This is written edited nicely. Things are progressing as expected. Alan, is, kind of, teaching again and has at least one child student. And he has the beginnings of a relationship. Coming over for dinner is an open invitation for loving.
Having said all that. You may need more of a sustained plot than a slice of life tale to keep readers' interest.

Thanks very much, Lance. Just a few more chapters showing the dinner together and a few other things until some real, sustained action comes up beginning in Chapter 13.

It's never easy to come in to a story at an advanced chapter of a story and try to figure out what's going on, but I appreciated the character list which helped.
I didn't see any editing errors.
All the best,
Jan

Here is a quick blurb about the story (like you would see on the Amazon product page) if you are interested in what it's about and think you may want to keep reading it:
David Phelps is a mild-mannered, somewhat timid High School Physics teacher who is suddenly charged with the sexual assault of one of his students. Unable to prove a negative?that he didn?t do it?and after having made a dreadful slip-of-the-tongue due to his dyslexia, he is asked to resign. Without the resources or the will to fight this charge and unwilling to live under a cloud of suspicion, he resigns and must now decide what to do with the rest of his life.
His dyslexia plays a key role in the story as he befriends a young man much like himself as a youth, and together they develop an important new tool in the battle against this incurable disability. But this endeavor is fraught with problems of its own. With the help of the woman he loves, will David be able to battle the forces arrayed against him this time and fight for his new invention?
Each chapter also begins with a brief recap of the previous chapter, so you could read a very condensed version of the story by reading just those.
Welcome aboard, Janilou, if you care to continue with it. - Jim
