The sentences that I especially liked were:
"I pulled out my compassion and tolerance compass and found it slightly off north. There was too much elbow room between honesty and integrity."
What a great practice to do a Self-Check. There's something about writing and then praying about it and releasing to God that is healing.

This is excellent and something I would have never thought of. I think you got a jewel in that late husband. To have someone concerned enough about his daily goal for himself to do that would have to cause a person to grow daily into a better person. I should have such a list because I'm to easily satisfacted with less that perfect. I should set higher standards for myself. I'm a work in progress too, but maybe I'd make more progress is I set some goals for my performanace. You may have inspired me. Thank you. This should be a good entry for the Satisfaction contest.

I'd say we all need to sit down and do a little self assessment every once in a while, and for me, maybe a little more often than most. I can't say that I've ever been totally satisfied with me, but I work hard not to be disappointed in who I've become. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

We are all works in progress. I know of not a single soul (least of all myself) who shouldn't be checking their moral compass with regularity and adjusting when called for. (Which is inevitably often, because as we learn more, we do more...)
Your husband was wise. You learned by his example and have had a very satisfying life so far... And let it be an example to all of us that even when we have success as measured by societal norms...we have an innate internal drive to be better humans!

I think your late husband was quite clever.... I do believe we could all be kinder... But I also believe that many come about be kind naturally...maybe they had a great childhood...who knows... For me, well, I never ever say an unkind word to anyone...I find no need for that...
