I so agree with your few words of wisdom Beth and just now all we are hearing about is killing and destruction, I wish you luck with your poignant poem, love Dolly x

Beth, you're getting my last "six" of the week because these endless wars have been on my mind a lot the last few days, and you have summed up the futility of it all. I marvel at the miraculous war machines we have created and countries are clamoring for, yet we cannot do the simplest things like feed the hungry, house the homeless, and make sure everyone has access to decent medical care.

Congress talks about cutting social security, medicare, and Medicaid because they are bankrupting the country. Billions of dollars to fight wars outside of our country are just as much to blame.

Sorry about the rant. I do appreciate your poem. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. Yes, nothing good ever comes from war. I wish the powers in charge would realize this. They don't seem to understand. I enjoyed reading and good luck with the contest.

This is so tragically topical and your 5 line verse sums up the simple truth that war can never resolve issues because it is based so deeply in the worst of human vices. The only very minor thing I would say, Beth, is that, as 'greed' and 'hate' are plural, the verb should of course be 'corrupt' without the 's.' The only way round it would be to say: Noone wins should war erupt/Greed and hate erupt. Thanks for sharing and good luck! Debbie

Perfect!! A very much to the point and in your face poem. I like it! People don't listen unless you put it in their face. And the picture really does it too I must say!
I really like this outspoken poem.
Structure spelling esthetics, you've got an amazing piece here. Thank you very much and I look forward to your next submission. Best of luck to you!

The words in your poem are so true and well expressed. I would love to see it win the contest. (One suggestion: It would be- Greed and hate corrupt or Greed, along with hate, corrupts. (for subject verb agreement).

Thank you Verna for the review and nice comments and for pointing our the subject/verb problem. I need to change two lines to keep the rhyme and syllable count.
"No one wins when wars erupt
    Greed and hate corrupt"

You've said a few mouths full with the few short words in your poem. But with people, it doesn't matter how many times they get the same messages, they never seem to listen. Thanks for sharing.

Most people would rather live in peace but usually it's those that don't have to risk their own life that willing to send others to get what they want.

You do not lie. It's crazy knowing how history proves regardless of the person or nation that spins carnage before its troop eventually loses what is gained. Look at Rome, Greece, Babylon or Germany and Japan. It's crazy.

Thank you Tom. I appreciate the review and comments. Yes history proves war results in more losses in the end.
