I think Elaine wanted to retire even more than I did, she had it figured out, I didn't, but I did learn, she gave teaching people who didn't want to learn to teach those that do, like you she wanted to do what she wanted to do when she wanted to do it, I learnt from her, I think we're busier than we've ever been, to just do what you want and happy doing it, you need to know what you want to do, but I think you might have worked that out, well done, blessings riy

Thanks, Roy. I'll probably go part time next year. It's starting to wear me down. Gretchen

I love this! You seem to write even better when you're talking about yourself. I could read it forever. You say so many relatable and honest things that the reader instantly warms to you. And above all, you have humour which is so often in short supply. It's precious in fact. And for this reason, I would be amazed if you can't, at least, go part-time and start a writing group. Whatever you choose, I've no doubt you'll be missed at the pharmacy when you leave. All the best, Debbie x

I always tease them that they'll miss me when I'm gone. Usually after I've done something obnoxious. Thank you so much for this. Gretchen

I'm 68, continue to work 45 plus hours per week. And yes, it does SUCK! I started collecting SS at 65.
Your soft retire date coincides with my wife's. Let's see how it all shakes out...
Cheers to NO MORE WORKING...

This was good. Reading about YOU, the writer whom we all love and look forward to hearing from. And yes, I know I have been remiss in posting for so long. Thanks for baring your soul.

Thanks for listening to my rant. Lol. Much appreciated. Gretchen

I can understand what you are saying, Gretchen. When things start going wrong health wise, you really do feel it would be best to retire. When I retired 16 years ago at the age of 60, that was the age women had to retire. Now it's 67, and shortly that will go up as well. My pension doesn't give me a life of luxury, but between my husband and I we can have a reasonable life. But we do what you want to do, live for today, we don't own tomorrow, I'm sure you'll be doing all those things soon. I enjoyed your bit of a rant!! LOL Keep smiling, my friend. Love and hugs, Sandra xx

Thank you. The sad thing is the amount of soc sec only changes by about 300 dollars if I wait until 67. Scary. I keep on keeping on. Gretchen

Well said!
Have you considered part time work?
I suggest bank robbing - great hourly return, minimal human interaction, and your crankiness would actually be a plus! And a bonus - if caught, you get fed 3X daily and a nice rest from husband's encroachments of your time.
My only other idea involves a portable mattress, but, well... never mind.

I had to retire in my 50s because of health issues. I found a job I could work when I was able to and loved every minute. Now, one day runs into the next. As far as money is concerned, you realize what's important and what not necessary. Good luck!

I think I could easily sell our house and down size. Not sure my husband could. Lol. Thank you for this. Gretchen

I could, too, but everything I own has a story behind it and I can't bare to part with them.

I don't much that a lot don't agree with. My husband spent a lot his working career wanting to retire and and at 56 he did. He gave you a big paycheck so I was afraid we couldn't make but he invested enough that we made it just fine even though we still had a daughter in high school. I was younger so I worked a while longer. Then I had to quick working at about the same age to take care of my dad. For a while there no paycheck but since we'd paid off all our debts we made it just fine. After two years Dad died and we got to some traveling. I do agree about the doctor. I don't go either and I don't take medicine. If I should go, they would find something. That is what they're trained to do.

Never really trusted doctors. Lol. In pharmacy I see more than the occasional mistake by them. Disheartening. Gretchen

Thank you for sharing your dream with us. I honestly thought that when I retired, I would have time to do the things I wanted to do. Unfortunately, life still get in the way. I have decided I need to retire from being retired. Maybe then I can have freedom. LOL

My feet hurt because I'm standing on them for 9 plus hours. I'm just tired. Plus, I don't have a problem saying no when asked to volunteer or help out. Lol. At least you have the choice to do it or not. I can't ever plan things because of work. Thank you so much. Gretchen
