The contrast is heart-breaking.
I had my wife read this one. Her response - "How'd she know my momma?" Unfortunately, her mother is Alice. (91)
Best wishes.

Thank you very much Wayne. I am honoured ythat you chose to share it with your wife. (Unfortunately, my mother is Alice also. I fear becoming more like her as I get older, and ask the Lord to take me home before that happens. I am going to make a conscious effort to guard against becoming like that. Barbara is in my Bible Study group.)

I must agree with you, but I will allow the Lord to take care of business, it's not by my efforts that I have reached this place, I know whatever we need will be provided, He is our joy, our peace, and He has written our days in the chronicles of Heaven, well done, blessings Roy

We make the choice to follow Him, to deny ourselves, and to live a Spirit-filled life, and He enables. Thanks for the review. Always appreciated.

I think we have all seen examples of these 2 women's characteristics which you have so clearly described here. And I know which one I want to be! We must always be mindful of the impact of our behaviour and attitude on others.
How sad it is that Alice's self-centredness has damaged her relationships with her family.
This is very effectively put:
'My choices today determine who I am as a person, and who I will be ... my thoughts become words, which become actions, which become habits, which become character.'
...as is this:
'Ageing is not for the faint-hearted, but at least we can be thankful to have had the privilege of growing old.'
Yes indeed... so many lives are cut short.
Your story reveals your own personality and awareness is on the right track with a loving heart guided by faith and humanity.

Thank you very much Jenny. It's something to guard against, not becoming self-focussed and hurtful to others. I want to be understanding, compasionate (and fun, if I have the energy! Lol.) Many thanks for the six stars, greatly valued.

I have been thinking about how I treat others lately. I love my family and friends. I think about how I will be when I get to a certain age. I pray that I will be nice old lady. The kind that will share fun stories and slip someone a twenty dollar bill just because. I pray I won't end up being one of those mean hateful bitter old folks who when they pass on, the news will gain as many sighs of relief as tears. This was a great story. You tell it well. Gretchen

There is a lot of good advice in this post and you have demostrated the different in what our choices do as we age by showing how positive and negative characteristics are magnified with passing time. Aging is reality but we can to it gracefully or otherwise.

Full of the conviction of your faith. A heart-warming and inspiring piece of writing that reminds us - if you don't mind - of the blessings of our own lives. Thank you for sharing these amazing stories with us.
