Wendy,
This is an awesome portrayal of a man who is making a difference in young people's lives. Aborigines were like our Native Americans; they did not waste resources, and they had tribunals that effectively keep order. They respect the Earth and all its gifts.
Your writing is clear and flows nicely.
Good luck, Wendy.

Thank you very much Cindy. Yes, these so-called primitive societies managed earth and its resources in a very responsible and much better way than most of the Western counterparts.

A fine tribute to a very impressive Mr Ed. So committed in his efforts to spread the story of his culture to the younger generation who will hopefully always remember his unique contribution to their education. A very inspiring and engaging story. Thanks for sharing, Wendy. Debbie

Wendy G continues to amaze me with facts about life and people Down Under, and all of this from a woman who claimed she was stepping away from FanDtory for a while as "poetry" was taking too much of her time.
How did that work out for you?
Love ya!

I did step away - for a couple of days here and there! Lol. Very little poetry now and very few contests. Just writing what I want and when I want and in my own style. But life is busy.

... and here we agree. No contests. Just writing what I want and when I want and in my own style.

As someone who has had a lifelong interest in folk tales of any society I come across, this short piece was of considerable interest to me. I believe the folk tales of a society are a way into understanding it. It is surely no accident that the tales of native Australians and Americans are more about survival in the natural world. Western folklore is more about gaining dominance over other races and societies. The Iliad, and Odyssey, Robin Hood, Niebelungen Lied etc are cases in point.

That is a most interesting observation, and you are right. And even today that?s the desire of the western world. And increasing in personal wealth and status. The Aboriginal people?s didn?t really own anything. Everything was shared. That?s what got them frequently into trouble with whites. If they used something belonging to another it was counted as stealing and they were thrown into prison. With no understanding of why. Thanks so much for his fascinating review.

Now, Uncle Ed is a giver. He's giving time, money (wood isn't cheap) and a true sense of culture. He is opening their eyes to a world that had almost become invisible. Outstanding message, Wendy. We have "friends" of our local schools. They come in to talk about how things were here on this strip of sand I call home. It is fascinating to hear the stories. Thank goodness for people like this. Imagine all the things we'd never know. Gretchen

I just hit a fascinating review from Pantygynt. He points out that our Aboriginal legends and American Native legends tend to be based on survival whereas western legends are more about dominance over others and other societies. Very insightful. And I love your review too. It all comes down to respect for others and what?s important to them. We could learn a great deal about others? value systems. Thanks so much!

This is a very interesting story, and I enjoy listening to it very much. In today's world it would be so good if all people would look at other people of other cultures as bbeing people who have much to share with us, that would make our world a better place to live. Thanks for sharing the story with us. Patricia.

I am so glad you enjoyed it, and you are right. How much better this world would be if we all showed respect for others and a willingness to learn from them. Love your review. Thank you!
