This is the most beautiful of poems for Father's Day. The rhyming is flawless, the imagery sweet and filled with wonder and innocence. The ending line says everything we need to know about your father and the father that you became.

Oh, how very sweet, and a fine tribute to wonderful fathers. If I had any suggestion at all it would be to replace one of the four times in those first stanzas that you use the word "then". This was so easy to visualize too. Nicely done!

And so a favourite pastime and book is handed from generation to generation. Your poem is delightful.... a well-constructed, flowing narrative that sets the scene well and introduces emotion. Many will relate - I certainly do.

Dear friend (I don't have your name on my screen), I thought that this was a really delightful poem for Father's Day. The six four line stanzas worked perfectly in telling this story, and you controlled the 4-3-4-3 meter consistently throughout, which isn't easy. The final verse was extremely poignant without tipping over into sentimentality. Well done. I don't give many 6 star ratings! Good luck in the future.

Thanks, Paul. This is possibly the best poem I have ever written, and it came so easily I thought the spirit of my father might have been involved.

Happy Father's Day! Your poem is a really beautiful poem and the story behind it is even more beautiful. I love interactions between Generations and traditions that are uphold and kept going. To have this meaning story leads to love more poems, poetry and the entire Art of Storytelling. Your father gave you a gift and you're giving that gift to your son as well, which he can also carry on to future generations. Your Father's Day story contains a Priceless treasure, connections between generations. Best wishes!

Hi
This poem flows well and tells of a good tradition to pass on down.
It seems that poem will mean as much to your son has it did to you.
Do you know if your grandfather read it to your father. I've heard of 'The Owl and the Pussy Cat', but not 'The Owl and the Fox'. Who wrote it?
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Have a good weekend.

It's a loving and warm poem ~ such a sweet memory and an honor to your father who planted this seed within you so that you could blossom and pass it on to your own "child with golden locks." I was surprised, when "Googling" to find a number of poems with this title. I wonder--might you be referring to the "classic" by James Russell Lowell?

Best of luck in this contest!

What an absolutely beautiful and poignant poem, a tribute to your father, and a spoken love - through poetry - for a child who will also come to love that poem.

Is that your father's poem? Did he write it?

Thank you so much for sharing this heartwarming slice of life.

What a beautiful memory and legacy your father left to you. I too, love rhyming poetry as it sings a lullaby to my heart.
Great job with the rhyming phrases and the heartfelt sentiment concerning your father comes shining through!
