Oh, Debi! It's so smart of you to share these symptoms. I know many people who have no clue Shingles can affect the eyes! As you said, who knows how many may be having similar symptoms? The cataract surgery is a piece of cake...I am praying your eye surgeon will be able to minimize the scarring caused by Shingles. You are a human dynamo now...imagine what improved eyesight will do for you! Blessings...

Very well told. I understand, as I've had severe double vision while driving. Couldn't continue as it was too dangerous. But it was a symptom of an illness which if left untreated would have meant I would be blind within twenty-four hours. Hope your surgery will go really well and that the outcome for both eyes will be very positive. Best wishes for your entry.

Omgosh Wendy, see what I mean about sharing? I have seen double since seventeen after surgery for lazy eyes. But how awful for you. Did they try prisms for yours? They didn't work for mine but I wouldn't know what seeing single would be like. And up close I only see one. Are you ok now Sweetie?
-
I had to take a massive dose of corticosteroids (twice the maximum for my weight) to immediately reduce the inflammation in the arteries to the eyes so the blood supply would not be blocked off, resulting in blindness. I became diabetic for eighteen months as the steroid interfered with the appropriate functioning of my pancreas. As the dosage of steroids reduced my pancreas gradually returned to normal. (More than six years later I am still taking a small dose of steroids plus an injection every couple of weeks to manage the disease. So yes, I am fine thank you. It's being managed well now.

Oh dear Wendy, I am saying prayers and added you to my prayer list to ask for healing. God bless you and help you to get better daily.

Thank you. Mine is well managed now (after six years). Eyes are okay but do have other different eye problems. W

Thanks Wendy. You are on my prayer list and I pray for more healing for you always.
I was wondering if you could help me with a poem I am doing for Father's Day for the grandpa's of the world. Could you tell me your location in Australia and tell me what your grandkids call your husband? Thanks so much my dear friend.
-
Lol. They call my husband Pa. Their other grandfather is Poppy. (Some grandfathers are Pop). My daughter?s children called their other grandfather Granddad. Any or all of these are quite common, along with Grandpa. We live near Sydney in New South Wales.

Oh Wendy, your information is awesome, thank you so much!

Well seeing ferris wheels when there are none
would scare the p'turkey out of me. You did an
awesome job with your informative story, Debi.
I liked how you gave readers so many details that
supported the issue with your eyes. Shingles in eyes
sounded awful. With modern technology, I believe
you'll get great relief. I'll keep you in my prayers.
I know you have a great support system of family
and friends to help post-surgery with the drops etc.
I liked the dialogue included in the conversations with
Glen. I know how much you love FS, and soon you'll have
'new' eyes to enjoy it even more.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest, Jan

Thanks for sharing your story, Debi. Prayers for your surgery on Wednesday. I've had cataract surgeries in both eyes, and yes, the healing is pretty fast. Hope your vision is much improved, and that you no longer have your colorful nightlife. Best wishes in the contest. Carol

I really like this and it was a shock to discover that shingles can affect vision like that. My only critique is that I would like to know more about the main character before we get to the meat of the story. It doesn't have to be much; just a couple of sentences to make it easier for me to picture her. For instance, why is Christmas her baby? Does she like driving or feel it's a chore? Does she still love her husband after all these years? Has her hair turned grey yet? Right now I have trouble seeing her, and I want to see her because the action of the story is excellent. Hope you understand what I mean here. It's not much to change and then you'd get a six.

LOL, Loretta you are sweet! first of all, if you see my profile picture that is accurate . Most everyone here knows me well so kept it short and sweet. However, you are right that maybe a little more info would be nice, but for most, it might be overkill. and appreciate the thought - but you can't change a five to a six. So I will give you a lil about me, I am a top notch grandma and am also known as being a big kid. Hubby and I married 49 years in may. And I have lupus and kidney disease so my immune system is shot And why I have had
shingles four times. Last summer' had two leg surgeries to help me learn to walk. again. Crippled for last 10 years. And doctors call me bionic woman. 52 surgeries.I never complain and always thankful so this is why l don't offer much else. Welcome my friend and I hope we become good friends. -MY

Debi, I wish you successful surgery both times. Bless your heart, how frightening to see car lights coming at you.
If I may ask, did you have the covid vaccine? I know it's none of my business, but with these surgeries coming up, I sincerely hope you do not have another one.

I am so sorry for your troubles and pray that everything turns out all right.
I have never heard of shingles attacking the eyes. It only reinforces the need to get a shingles shot. We never thought about it until my brother-in-law got the shingles and went through quite a bit of pain. So we went and got our shots.
It has to have been a frightening experience for you.
Thank you for sharing.
Best wishes and prayers.

Thanks so much Mary and yes, we aren't sure if it is due to my lupus, but I did have the vaccines and I have had shingles four times. The eyes are the worst. But thankfully they can maybe help them . Thanks again for the kind comments my sweet friend. I am just so thankful to be having this.
