When my elder child was born, it was one of the most exhilarating days of my life. She was beautiful, and grew up as a beauty not only physically but internally. The day I gave her away I was happy for her and yet sad as well, but that sadness turned into joy, she gave us three of the best grandsons and made us very happy indeed, the bonus was our younger daughter gave us two grandchildren as a bonus, beautifully written, thanks for sharing, good luck, blessings Roy

This is a beautiful love story and poetic tribute to Mike, the Sailor Dad. Your words allows the reader to envision you and Mike from the time you met, to the birth and then marriage of your daughter. You have written a delightful Father's Day tribute to the Sailor Dad. Best wishes in the contest.

My sincere condolences on your loss -- what a wonderful tribute you have written though -- I feel as if I know him. "Sailer Dad" was obviously a man well-loved.
"On a sunny autumn day
with mums in bloom,
Mike proudly walked her
to her groom..." ---> So sweet! I can picture it easily!

A lovely summary of a happy Navy life. Just one item, last line of 3rd stanza: could HAVE had, not 'of'. Apart from that, fine. Best of luck in the Fathers' Day comp. Julie Lau

You have written a wonderful poem for this contest, and good luck. One of the things I like about the way you wrote the poem is how you gave us, the readers, some great details about the life of Sailor Dad. Excellent work. Terry.

Comment from Debbie D'Arcy
Your verse started off with such a jaunty, 'sea-faring' tone with the happiness of the Navy life you shared together vividly conveyed. As the story expanded there were more proud and memorable events with your daughter Adrienne and your lives together so obviously complete. I am so sorry to hear of his passing but what emerges from this is such a wonderful image of what obviously became integral to his life - his Navy experience - and your imagery at the end is beautiful in its testament to that. Love the last sentence! Thanks for sharing and good luck! Debbie
