I enjoyed this, Tom. A bad parent? Not by any means a bad prankster - yes. You are unable to keep a straight face and gave away some pretty awesome pranks--a glutton - no. I bet for years; you got the smallest piece or not at all when the kids were at home. Now it is all yours until they drop in to visit.
Well done.
Best wishes,
Mary

Hello Mary,
thanks so much for your very kind words. Jennifer often got the brunt of the pranks because she was so predictable, and believed whatever we told her. That always surprised me, because she was so intelligent, and was a world class teacher. She's a lot of fun to be around. It would actually be good to have some of the kids around to help eat some of the food we have. They could force me to eat less by helping themselves. Glad you liked this gal.
Have a blessed day.

Take them or leave them, kids can be, especially males progeny, a bane or blessing. At least you can hide their faux pas as women for they change their surnames but boys ... you never know.
By the way, being Hoonah-based, did you ever know any Reddons?

Hi Tom
thanks for the fine review. I agree, kids can be both at one time or another. Do you know when they were there? I lived in and around Hoonah for over forty years and the name doesn't ring a bell. Being a small town, I pretty much knew everybody, unless they lived out at the logging camp. Thanks for commenting.
Have a blessed day.

I laughed during this one. Love your pranks. My son played the jelly bean trick on me. He was waiting for my reaction to the bad ones - but for some unexplained reason the only ones I chose were good ones. He was most disappointed. But your story reminded me of other pranks which I will write about one day. I love your humour and I don't think you are a glutton - you just enjoy delicious food. And not a bad parent either - just protective of your own interests. Lol. Well written. Loved it.

Hello Wendy,
thanks so much for the exceptional review and stars. I think there was a chart on the box explaining which jelly beans to avoid, so I managed to keep from choosing them. I can't be sure, but we might have picked out all the bad ones to put in the dish, knowing full well that Jen would go for it. The anticipation was just too much when she spied them and I lost it. Darn.
Have a blessed day gal.

I think the house we grow up in always feels like home. We we have our own home, it just feels like we have two. Were our parents are is always home. Still that doesn;t stop me from hiding food that I'd just as soon not have eaten. What they don't know about they want miss. In school I had a friend who always begged for whatever she saw me eating. Once I put some laxative chicklets up front in a box of candy chicklets. She helped herself. Later when I confessed, she thanked me. She said she had been suffering from constipataion for a while and I fixed her problem. lol

Hello Beth,
thanks for sharing this story. I was laughing when I read it. I agree, where you grew up will always be your home, especially if you had a good childhood.
Have a blessed day gal.

Well, Tom, I've frozen brownies (cakes, muffins, etc.) and they're fine when we unfreeze them. Of course, it's too late for you to do that now, isn't it, LOL?!
She also BROUGHT with her, not bought with her.
If you're creating a flavor for a food called "baby wipes", "boogers", and "dog food", don't you have to sample the real thing first in order to create the flavor? Ewwww!!!!!
I don't think you're a bad parent or a glutton (well, maybe the latter) - I think you love playing jokes on people:-)
A fun read, Tom. Thanks for sharing your story with us.

Hello Pam,
thanks so much for the great review, and for pointing out that error. I'll go back and correct it. It would appear that some research would have to go in to making those flavors, but I don't really know. That would be a rather unpleasant job to have. I've seen that there are places that hire people to sniff unpleasant smells for a living though, so I guess there is someone for every job. I didn't realize that brownies could be frozen. I just assumed they would either get stale or mushy after a stint in the freezer. Now I know, I have no excuse.
Have a blessed day gal.

Lol. You're so funny! I don't blame you since you had such a big family, I know you had to fear when food might just disappear. My mom-in-law used to hide her stash of candy. My friends had 5 kids and when they were all teens, they had to put a lock on the cupboards because they would bring their friends and empty out the pantry!

Hello Helen,
I suppose when you have kids, you have to do what you have to do. My mom used to hide her bridge mix candy on top of a china cabinet, but that didn't keep me from getting it. I didn't like most of the jelly ones, but I couldn't tell which ones they were, so I bit into them and put them back in the box. My daughter Camille once brought a friend over and the gal ate a whole jar of green olives. I was actually pretty angry over that. I love green olives. Oh well.
Have a blessed day gal.

I don't know about being a bad parent, but you've obviously got a good relationship with your daughters and it shows. This was a fun read and my advice, if you want to be a prankster you have to keep your mirth under control. LOL
Enjoyed it, T.B.
cheers.

Hello Pearl,
thanks so much for the wonderful review and comments. Yes, my family likes to have a good time. When all of us get together there is a lot of laughter and re-living of past pranks and experiences. You're right, I'm not very good at pulling pranks, the anticipation of what is going to happen is more than I can control, and I lose it.
Have a blessed day gal.

Yep, you're a glutton AND somewhat of a food miser AND halfway towards being a decent prankster!
I enjoyed this little tale and I sympathise with the dilemma of whether or not to share delicious food with unexpected guests. A few weeks ago we had electricians here doing a job and at morning teatime we offered them a plateful of our delicious date loaf. The rotters are the lot - and it didn't show up in a reduction of their rates when the bill came due!
Great job.
Steve

Hello Steve,
thanks so much for the grand review and comments. That was pretty cheeky of those guys not to even reduce your bill by the cost of the date loaf. The nerve of some people. I've never heard the term rotters, but it sounds like they're an ungrateful lot for sure.
Have a blessed day.
