Not to mention the IRS has eyes everywhere and he was so going to be SOAKED...and not by the shiny sea! Hey, nice modern fable! I think there is a fair share of greedy types who'd be quite happy for quite a while...
(It's hard to fight that keeping up with the Jones's thing)---but all in all, I enjoyed the premise of the magic whale... (At least it's not the HUMAN "spouting" off!)---and this made me smile. Creative and entertaining!
Way to go!

Karenina, thank you very much. Yes, the dilemma of practical needs being met and the mass mind consciousness of keeping up with the Joneses.

You're welcome!

I enjoyed reading this writing prompt entry. Your moral to this story is very wise. Many people never learn that lesson. Thank you for sharing this with us. I couldn't find any way to make this entry bette.

Ah yes. A familiar tale of caution. Be careful of what you seek. The apple may well have a worm inside. The sweet things you devour may cause you to become afflicted with diabetes. The drugs that make you feel so good, could well become an addiction to dangerous drugs which could cause your death. The list goes on and on. But the picture has already been painted. Enough said.

Jen, thank you for this extra special six stars! Much appreciated!

Good story, well written. I think, though, that I would drop the phrase: "... who will love me" since you make clear that she did not.
Good luck in the contest.

You expressed your idea well. I have to wonder what the whale had to do with the moral, though. Still, it was a good story with a good lesson. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Jessi, the whale was the procurer of the fisherman's wishes. This put into action the events that resersed his lifestyle which I. His case brought about negative impacts.

This is a delightful fable with a story line as remarkable as any Grimm's fairytale. The fast moving story culminates with a thought=provoking moral, "material possessions are not what makes someone happy." Well done. Best wishes in the contest.

Dang it, I was pulling for him. I hoped he would find true happiness. But that is what happens when you come across a talking whale. Just kidding. This is very creative and does deliver a fine message. Good luck. Well done. Terry.

What an interesting Fable contest entry. I do think you missed the moral though. It should be : if you have a whale in your sights...take the shot.
Ha!
Nice work and good luck!

The moral of this story is one that needs repeating in both traditional fables and modern ones like this one. Yours is well written, with good sentence structure and descroptive imagery.
This rating does not count towards story rating or author rank.
The highest and the lowest rating are not included in calculations.
