To answer your question. It is not too much to ask, but the problem is huge, and the politicians are disconnected from the people. I do not see any room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

Thank you for reading and reviewing. Terry.

As a news junkie, I was in front of my TV to watch the pomp and circumstance of the coronation of King Charles III. In the evening, I watched the preliminaries and win of Mage in the 2023 Kentucky Derby. This morning, I learned of the Texas mall shooting.
Last week, Raphael Warnock, a Baptist pastor and U.S. Senator from Georgia said, "Prayers are not enough." If a minister tells you to do more than pray, he knows God needs the work of mankind to stop gun violence.
You have provided a very detailed and thought-provoking commentary and synopsis of current headlines.

Lorraine, thank you for reading and your review. Terry.
Comment from Ulla
Terry, I agree on everything you're saying. But I still have more to add. Forbid guns, and confiscate all that are in circulation. How far will America take the second amendment? Is money really so much more important than human lives? In the US it apparently is. I'm half American and I've been invited to my eldest nephews wedding, but for the first time ever, I'm asking myself if I dare going. I live in Spain. Guns are not allowed here, unless for a very good reason.
On last say, if the US can't treat the mental I'll, the more reason to confiscate all weapons. Ulla:)))

Clearly, out elected officials care more about votes than they care about the people who vote. Perhaps if the people who vote decided to hold them accountable and let them know that they are in danger of losing that coveted vote, they just might be spurred into doing something about the increasing gun violence. Or do they fear becoming a victim of some of that gun violence?

Nolan, I don't know. Our Gov. was on Fox News rejecting any gun control measures...even though polls in Texas are overwhelmingly in favor of it. Thank you for reading, Terry.

My bad, I should have said they care more about NRA dollars than anything else. I misstated my point.

No, Terry, it's not too much to ask. A child is shot dead every day, yet not one politician wants to ban guns. It will continue because no one wants upset the gun lords. Guns don't kill ... yes they do! As you say, the politics of man is to look after themselves not change laws. :(N Sandra xx

I agree with you completely. If religious leaders had a movement like the 60's civil rights movement maybe something would be done.
One governor is now allowing no registration, no training and ok to carry a concealed weapon without a permit. - insane!

I totally agree! This is inane. The thoughts and prayers offered when they refuse to do anything to try to reduce or stop this senseless violence is just meaningless.

Sir, you are right, thank you for reading and reviewing. Terry.

I like the way you presented this with four examples of big events lauded by some and ignored by other. For sure, offering up thoughts and prayers won't change the situation. Too many people thinks guns are the answer.

The media picks and chooses what they want to highlight
and basically ignores 'real' news. Your points were made
well, Terry. The UK can have their king and queen and all
that goes with it. However, here in Texas we have more
pressing issues than a brotherly feud. Gun violence and
illegal immigrants affect everyone here and across the US.
Politicians use reports of shootings to their advantage to
further themselves. Real action would mean actually doing
something rather than just talking about them and a photo op.
As for the Kentucky Derby--who cares! I care about the 7 horses
who have died THIS week because of--well, it's still being investigated.
However, most who attend and the owners/personnel connected
to the horses couldn't give a flip about the animals who earn their
lazy attitudes the money. The USA needs to get her priorities
in order as we are spiraling ever quicker into the abyss.
Thanks for sharing, Jan
