I enjoyed reading your family story. The love you felt comes shining through. At my Mom's house, the kitchen table was always open. "Have a cup of coffee. Sit, sit." She would not take no for an answer. You might accept the first offer, or she would keep offering. I do not see any room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

Hi John,
I enjoyed reading about your family gatherings. It reminded me of the family times we had so many years ago, back in the late 50's and early 60's, when I was just a lively kid. We had some great times, especially at Christmas. But, like your family, it doesn't last. Things change.
I bet the food was terrific, but it's the family members that ruled the day.
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers,
Kimbob

I loved this wonderful, nostalgic, well written story of your youth and those memorable family dinners that make my mouth water as you describe them. You were truly blessed, John, for having an extended family like that who enjoyed each others' company and needed little excuse to get together and celebrate often. Such great memories for you.
That's one thing I love about the family dinners depicted in the TV show, "Blue Bloods." Despite differences of opinion, you can feel the love they have for each other and the respect they show to one another. It's heartwarming to see, as I'm sure it was for you to feel with your family. Jim

I enjoyed your story of the wonderful family dinners. The menu sounds absolutely delicious! How did you fit it all in? Nicely done.
Wendy
No apostrophes for normal plurals. (Potato's should be the plural potatoes.)

Thank you, Wendy for reading and the correction.
It?s amazing the amount of good food cooked and consumed. That?s why dinners took 2-3 hours, nice and slow.

What wonderful memories you have of these huge family gatherings here and the food all sounds so delicious too. I loved your photograph John. Time moves on and now you gather for those special occasions. Many Italian families enjoy huge celebrations around the dinner table and celebrate the togetherness of family, I enjoyed your fine post John, it is full of love and gratitude, very uplifting, love Dolly x

I love hearing about the Italian lifestyle, their close-knit families and their enthusiastic celebration of food and meal-times. This account captures all that vividly with lovely descriptions of dishes, fun and all the organisation that goes into these family occasions. Just a small edit: I think your 'wreck havoc' should be 'wreak havoc' but the prose is excellent and perfectly conveys atmosphere and a strong childhood memory. Thanks for sharing. Debbie

Yes, they have changed. I knew some Italians who were farmers. I come to know them well. I dated a girl from who was one of their daughters. A beautiful girl and great parents. Thanks for sharing your tradigital meal. It is always fantasist.
