Well, you sure strike me as a manly man, so if it's a real chore for you, then I'm guessing my ole butt might get puckered and Hoovering too. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

    Hey Ric,
it's nice to hear from you. Well, I may have been manly once, but now it's like Jeff Foxworthy mentioned- I used to could ....
I guess if I put larger wheels on the vacuum cleaner it would be easier to push, but then it would probably defeat the purpose. Oh well. Have a blessed day my friend.

Haha what a fun story, Tom. I enjoyed reading it.
Who knew carpet could produce such an amusing
story? Well of course, it was the author who did. I
would've never dreamed extra plush carpet could've
caused this 'dilemma.' Your great descriptions and
word choices added to the enjoyment. At least I wasn't
one trying to sweep it.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

    Hello Jan,
I'm so glad you enjoyed this post. You're more than welcome to come visit and try out the vacuum while you're here. Maybe I could host vacuuming parties; invite over friends and families and turn it into like a contest, see who could last the longest or vacuum the most area. I'll have to work on that idea I think.
    Have a blessed day gal.

😊 Haha, I believe I'll pass. With the blowing dirt here, I have more than enough to plant an inside garden.

At least you don't have to buy gardening soil. There's something good in every situation.

of all life's many memories, and you must have a zillion being on a lonely island off Ak coast, you select to write of vacuuming a floor? Go back to bed and reminisce something more exciting for me to read, like a 200 lb halibut.

    Hi Tom,
Well not all of life is one exciting adventure. The mundane has a place in all of our lives I'm afraid. I will say, since you mentioned it, that I once caught a 186 lb halibut on a hook that was placed between the anchor and the buoy. We had three baited hooks left over at the end of the set, so I told my son to put it above the anchor. We were only fishing in about60 feet of water. When we came back the next day, the buoy was jumping up and down like a bobber. That was fun. Is that better?
    Have a blessed day.

That's hysterical, T B! I've never heard of such a thing. I must conclude then that it's just you getting wimpy! :)

This humorous story was written with wit and commonsense solutions (the doctor on hand, the Hooverites). This was very well done. Jim

    Hi Jim,
I'm glad you enjoyed this offering. I'm amazed at how much strength I've lost over the years, but in my defense, that carpet is pretty plush. It's much better quality than I used to be able to afford. Perhaps I should invent a two handed vacuum that I could really push without taxing my one arm. Thanks for the great review.
    Have a blessed day.

I hope you have a self-propelled vacuum. Mine has two setting and I couldn't use the one where you have to push it yourself. I couldn't do that on carpet. I don't have really thick carpet though. I enjoyed your story. I see why your wife is asking for help.

    Hi Beth,
That's the weird part, it does have a self-propelled function, and I was using it, otherwise I would have dug a hole in the carpet because I wouldn't have been able to move it at all. Guess I'm going to have to eat a bowl of Wheaties before I vacuum next time.
    Have a blessed day.

Maybe you need a new vacuum cleaner Tom? The new models are sensitive to carpet pile and can be adjusted to fit taller or shorter piles in carpets. I always find carpet cleaning hard to do and I don't mind because it tends to work my abs! Ha ha ha, you made me smile here Tom, go and have a lie down now, love Dolly x x x

    Hello Dolly,
I think the problem is with me, not the vacuum cleaner. Too many hours sitting at the computer or in front of the TV. The vacuum is actually self propelled, or so it says, though that can be deceiving. I used to have a self-propelled lawn mower too, but the belt that drove it broke, so every time I mowed the lawn I'd damned near have a heart attack. I don't have any abs, I have flabs, so I'm jealous of you.
    Have a blessed day gal.

Vacuuming is hard work. It does get harder as we grow older. I've learned I can sit and push the machine around, then move my chair as needed. Your story is so funny. I know it's true, because it comes from experience.

Well Yvonne, that's a first. I've never heard of vacuuming while sitting down. Perhaps if I had a wheelchair that was motorized I could do that. As it is, I'm thinking about approaching the people at Shark and submit a design for a two handed vacuum, like the snow scoops that are popular here. You could really get some momentum behind it then. I have lots of good ideas, I don't understand why I'm not rich.

I know what you mean. When the boys were small, I created a card holder for little hands using to butter tub lids. Imagine my surprise when I saw them for sale years later!!!! I could have been rich, too.

Lee, (Humpwhistle) and I were just discussing the idea of a riding vacuum cleaner, like a riding lawn mower. If you had enough carpet, the idea might really take off. I wish I'd have thought of that years ago when I had the janitorial contract at the Forest Service, I could have shaved hours off the job.
reply by damommy on 13-Apr-2023
If/when you develop a riding vacuum cleaner, I want the first one!
reply by the author on 13-Apr-2023
I'll sell you the second one gal, I need the first one.

Oh I do believe that! You have my utmost sympathy, and you wrote this most engaging story very well, with touches of humour (yet, the situation isn't really funny). Vacuuming isn't the easiest job at the best of times. Thank you for sharing.

    Hello Wendy,
I have a tendency to make a mountain out of a molehill sometimes, but I did work up quite a sweat. When I was younger it wasn't a problem, one, because I was stronger, and two, because we couldn't afford the better carpet or vacuum. This thing could suck the hair right off a cat I suppose. Good thing I don't have any pets.

This short review is a humorous and lighthearted take on the difficulty of cleaning a high-quality carpet. The author describes their struggle to vacuum their living room floor, which is made difficult by the extra-thick pad beneath the carpet. The author humorously suggests that carpet cleaning should be introduced as an Olympic sport and that merchants should have a vacuum cleaner on standby to show customers the difficulty of cleaning certain types of flooring. Overall, the review is an amusing take on the challenges of keeping a clean home.

    Hello Jasmine,
thanks so much for the positive review. As we get older, the every day things take on a degree of difficulty that are a bit of a surprise. Cleaning the carpet never used to be a challenge, but then again, neither did getting out of my easy chair. I think I need to write a book about getting old, the challenges and what to expect so that as people age they won't get caught off guard.

Tom, that is hysterical!!! The whole thing kept me laughing. Your descriptions were so funny. I wish I could've seen your face.
but let me tell you, I did the same thing for my bedroom, guest room and office. I tried vacuuming it with my heavy duty vacuum and I couldn't budge it. FINALLY I found a little switch on the vacuum that raises it up for thicker rugs!!!! Have you checked?

    Hello Katharine,
Well, there is a switch that kind of helps to pull the vacuum along the carpet, but it wasn't strong enough to do much, although I'm not sure if I'd been able to move it at all without the switch. I should probably waited until the canister was almost full before I started on the living room, it might have had a little less suction. I was literally sweating. They should probably have vacuums for the patrons at all the local gyms. Not only would the floors be clean, but the patrons could really get a work out.
Have a blessed evening gal. Thanks so much for the six.
    Blessings,
    Tom

still love to walk on my carpet barefooted. Oh, I meant to tell you, that is a terrific title! The perfect one.

I'm so glad you enjoyed this gal. I like walking on the carpet barefooted too, especially since I don't have any pets at home any more. I got the title after I mentioned to Jan that it took two men and a boy to complete the job. It seemed appropriate.
