Barbara. I thought the part where they both suspected someone entered Emma's apartment was a little weak. Breaking and entering is a serious offense. Especially in the police chiefs backyard. Maybe a paragraph with some details or nervousness on Emma's part?
Just a suggestion I thought to add validity to the situation.

They don't know anything. It's just a gut feeling they both had. Not a single bit of evidence. thank you for the kind review.

Blackmail! I didn't see that coming. Promises to open into some very interesting twists and turns and imaginative writing. If someone has been inside they can get copies made of her keys. Not good. Just as well the locks will be changed. Well done, a very enjoyable read.

Reading this and where money is a factor in silence made me realize how people can scrape the bottom of life for a few bucks. Good post. Now we have some gossip to deal with.

This is fun to read. The mystery deepens. I don't get why parents don't tell children they're adopted when they're mature enough to handle it. They almost always find out and it often doesn't end so well. I think they should know while they're still young. If they know they were wanted and loved they should have less problem.

Another good read. Things are getting a little more serious, now. I did wonder if the invader might have copied her old keys. Not sure if there is gonna be romance with the police chief. I guess we will find out, soon. Well done. No spags.

I always look forward to the weekend when you and another author I'm following post. This is another excellent chapter. There is increased tension with the possible stalker. There is no room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

This was an interesting chapter, except I would have liked to read of some concrete evidence proving that someone had been inside Emma's house during their absence - so much kerfuffle on a hunch didn't sit too well with me. kay

Being adopted myself, I don't like the Idea of holding back such information. I knew about it from day one and it became a natural thing throughout my upbringing.
So much harm is done to the poor child. Ulla:)))

Emma doesn't know she's adopted? I say it's time to tell her. Another case of overly protective (adoptive) parents. It's good to have another possible suspect who might be stalking Emma. It adds to the suspense. I think you might want just a little bit of something, other than feelings, that someone has been in Emma's house. It could be just a small item out place, for instance. I think there needs to be more to justify Seth not wanting her to spend the night in the house. Just my thought. Excellent characterization. You're definitely building suspense. judi

It sounds like there's a bad guy on the loose. Another clue: the adopted father told the officer about a fellow who sent Emma's father mail regarding a ransom note.
