"Unable to Label" is an essay admiring those individualists outside the more homogenized mass of humanity. The author makes strong points: to be conformist has to definitively mean to be less adventurous, less inquisitive, more accepting, and more familiar. It sometimes appears that current political values desire a homogenization of humanity, which would be a grave loss to all the future potentials of we sapient Earth-dwellers.

Where you see homogenized groups I see the differences among us. I would hope that individuals among us would not let what you perceive as a political grave loss to our country and instead give freedom and hope to our community at large.

I acknowledge your point, but I think the process of social homogenizing is a real thing. I can't claim to know where it will take us. Be well. Frank

You make a good point, Jesse. We are all potential individuals. And, while individuality is a glorious thing, it comes with a cost. There will always be a peanut gallery of cowards who find comfort in conformity, and point jeering fingers at those with freer spirits.
You are right to encourage the more flamboyant among us.

Peace, Jesse. Lee

Yes, Lee, it comes at a cost but I choose individuality over conformity any day of the week! I thank you for the extra stars and for giving me the heads up for you being one of the ones who is flamboyant and free.
Peace be with you, my friend!

Hi Jesse, I totally agree with you. But it's hard for most to stay true to who they really are, especially as a young adult as so many are keen to tell you who you should be. Probably out of their own insecurities.
I enjoyed reading this. Ulla:)))

Young adults have a particularly hard time I agree but it is up to us all to stand up for what we believe in and be ourselves once and for all.
I am happy you enjoyed this piece!

I have known a number of people who fit this category. Many of them weren't intelligent in the eyes of the world, but the things they did are forever written on my mind.
You make some wonderful points.
Great job.

I enjoyed this, Jesse! I love the photo, and the caption is super clever. I agree that being yourself is always the best way, and your reinforcement to them to stay true speaks of your character. I love this piece! Best, JohnC

Yes, those you speak of are a special breed. We all like to think we are unique, but in reality, most of us are almost carbon copies from whence we came or those around us. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

I agree with you, Ric. Most of us are carbon copies of who we were raised up to be instead of stretching out and becoming who we really want to be.
Thanks for stopping by, my friend!

Yes, Jesse, I love it when people talk about common sense. When what they are really talking about is all the idiot prejudices that we acquire before the age of 18. All the ignorant thoughts and closed mindedness that was passing down from all the generations before. Hope everything is going well, my friend!

I agree with you, Ric. I have been well and looking forward to walking soon. It might be after another knee surgery to the right knee this time, I don't know for sure.
    Otherwise, I am doing fine!

You did a great job, Jesse, describing those special
individuals some would call free spirits. I liked the
words you chose to describe them. I agree with you.
Some people are just so unique, s/he defies labeling.
You are very observant.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

What a lovely and well-written piece, Jesse. The love and appreciation for the free spirited is always a great trait to possess and share with others ~ like you did here on FS. Your generous spirit in your writing is admirable... thanks for sharing.

Hi there
I found this a very profound write and agree with you whole heartedly. It has made me realize that only in later life I have become myself as in my childhood and youth I was brainwashed into thinking I had to be what my mother thought I should be. Thanks for sharing. Jen.

Reading this, I looked into myself. I don't think I became 'me' until later in my life. I'm more confident now than I've ever been. It's taken too long to get to this place. :) I agree with all you've said, and I have a few friends who I couldn't put a label on. They are the best friends and they are the ones who brought me out to be me--someone who is capable of knowing my own mind. I'm not sure what label anyone would put on me. I'll have to ask!! This is a great piece to talk about, and think about. So, very well done, Jesse! :)) Sandra xx
