Although we stole Christmas from the pagans originally, and now they've stolen it back. It's still a good time to promote the Lamb who was born to take away the sins of the world. This is so beautifully written Janet, you've rendered a good message to folk. Beautifully written my friend, blessings Roy

This is a lovely Christmas poem, and your tree is beautiful. Since I live alone, and will be going somewhere else for Christmas, I just have a small tree and kept the trimmings very simple this year.

What lovely thoughts you have expressed. Your tree is beautiful. The box of Christmas ornaments always reminds us of their origin and meaning. You have clearly described what each decorative item means to you, and tied the meaning into the celebration of the birth of Christ. Very well done. Best wishes in the contest. Happy Holidays.

This is a lovely poem that describes the sentiments connected to Christmas baubles and it's true meaning. It reads well throughout and the shape is interesting. However, if you were trying to make it look like a Christmas tree it needed to be pointed at the top rather than flat.
This is a good poem nevertheless so good luck with it

A sensitively written piece which will make many readers remember past Christmases! The nostalgia is built up as the poet reminisces about the different decorations!

That was beautiful, Janet, filled with joy, and some sadness. It's nice to be able to see things that have a story and lovely memory behind. Now, in our twilight years, those memories become all the more precious. Your poem summed up your lovely Tanka Prose perfectly. Well done, my friend, and good luck in the contest, :) Sandra xx

Hi Janet,
Loved this poem. I did my tree last night, and as you say, I've reached the time where I'm in my house by myself, and all the ornaments have a story to tell. :)

A beautiful offering, Janet, both in form and message.
It took me nearly a week to decorate our home this year for Christmas for the exact reasons you mention. I decorate every room... Told myself that I wasn't going to do that this year... Well, it's all decorated, and I am surrounded by love and memories...
Thank you for sharing!

Thank you Diane for the delightful review and the special stars.
I used to decorate every nook and cranny of the house. I guess I?m slowing down s bit this year. But I do know how you feel surrounded with all those beautiful memories. I may have to get out another box. (Smile)

Hi Janet,
This is a good haibun. I think that is what a mix of prose and poetry is called. Yes, trimming a tree is both fun and bittersweet. Many memories of the past can be brought up. That is one big and beautifully decorated tree.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Merry Christmas.

Wow, Janet. I can relate to the idea of each decoration of the Christmas tree having memories from long ago when we were small and our parents made them from scratch since they were poor at the time and it was wartime. I have several from that era in my cedar box just waiting for a tree to come and beg for decorating. I love this poem about the true meaning of Christmas. Thank you for reminding me of all the treasures I have as keepsakes to remember my parents from a long time ago.
