Beautiful story. This certainly tugs at my heart strings, especially as a daughter with a father whose writing has an eerily similar style. It's heartfelt and personal, but clearly exhausted and eager in the way that I imagine well encapsulates the emotions of someone who would write such a letter.

This is a very poignant letter to mark the armistice celebration. A drama is just starting on TV about the German POWs held in England at the end of the war, in the first two minutes the topic of them being used to work in England "as reparation" was brought up... I think it's terrible when the common man is made to pay for the behaviour/choices of his leaders. Power is an evil tool that corrupts, and absolte power corrupts absolutely, so the common man ends up paying the price of corruption. Small wonder he world's in such a mess. Thanks for sharing. Kate, Thank you for your review. I never heard of these "reparations," and truthfully was a little shocked that the Western world held them hostage. I agree with you completely.
Best wishes and regards,
Mary

Hello, Mary, what a beautiful and heartwarming story. The fact that is based on true war stories makes it even better. I feel bad for all the soldiers in both sides. How horrible to fight in a war for your country and punished after the war for not winning. People can be so cruel.
Well done!

Wow, what a very interesting piece of history.
Men like your father were a blessing! They protected the earth from an evil like no other before it.
Good story. Thanks for sharing this peek into the past!

This is an interesting letter. Perhaps, a story about the POWs that were forced into slave labor. That would be interesting.
notes:
Thus, the name, {He} is over six feet and skinny with dark eyes and hair, not the superman Hitler was looking for.
