I have never understood by in the US, especially we have children who have been abandoned and live in poverty. God does not want that. He's gives us examples every day of His love for his children. Thank you for sharing this emotional post with us.

Roy, This is a very beautiful and very well written poem you have penned. The picture you shared speaks loudly about these poor children. You used great scripture too. Thank you for always sharing with us! Blessings, Teri

Your image here is heartbreaking. We bring so many children into this world whom we are either unable or unwilling to take care of. This is our shame.

I liked the last stanza - you use shade and shadow to both tell of Jesus' protection and his mighty power.

A sobering and heartfelt poem, Roy.

The picture here invokes strong feelings, but the words seemingly belong elsewhere. Legal immigration is fine when we know who is arriving, but if the world had no borders, and every border has two sides, the USA would be inundated with an unimaginable cast of actors looking for whatever is placed before them, and if not taken from another.

I often do, Roy. I'm too young, being seventy-five, but perhaps in time I'll gain control. Be well.

You are right that our children should be accepted and loved and find refuge in our homes. As children of God we are loved an accepted in our weakness and God will never reject us as long as we remain his children.

I loved the wisdom of this spiritual sonnet and your scriptural references.

Well done, my friend, with your usual excellence in rhyme, meter, cadence, imagery and presentation. This cuts deep. Thanks for sharing.

Very poignant poem Roy, and a chilling photograph. I don't know any parent who has rejected their child, although I has seen some horrific reports on the TV (notably there was a case where a tiny tot was abused to death). However, children frequently reject their parents, at least for short periods during adolescence. It isn't always easy for the parent to keep the lines of communication open. Kate xx

I'd draw a line between rejection and revulsion, but I do wonder whether unconditional acceptance is a luxury of modern times. I know this isn't what your poem is about, but you reminded me of a crime drama I saw recently where an otherwise sensible mother destroys her life trying to protect her criminal son, and there's never any doubt she'll help him get away with things - because he's her son. The drama played out as though this was morally correct, apparently forgetting he leaves victims in his wake. I have no doubt my mum would have turned me in if she knew I was guilty of a violent crime - and she'd have been right to.

Sorry, went off on an aside! You poem definitely got me thinking :-)

Another excellent poem that carries an important message. Well done, Roy. I have one suggestion for consideration - delete the "'s" at the end of "blood." I think the meaning remains the same, the beat remains the same, and it flows off the tongue a bit easier.

Hello Roy,
Thanks for the reminder that those of us who are called by His name are expected to walk in a way that will honor Jesus' sacrifice. Though we can't meet the needs of everyone in the world, we can certainly share what we have with some.
Have a blessed day.
Tom
