Wendy, I used to volunteer in my daughter's first grade classroom and I still recall how excited each child was when it was their turn to sit and work with me. What a sweet, innocent age you speak of here.
Catching a bit of celebrity - I totally get that.
That sequin is more precious than a diamond because it was given from the heart. Lucky you!

Exactly. It's a beautiful age. It would have been wonderful you too. And yes, I know it's a very special gift. As adults we need to see the love behind such precious gifts. Thank you for your beautiful review.

This is a lovely story, Wendy. What a nice day for your granddaughter. And yes, the best presents have no commercial value. My three year old was entraced by my colour coded jottings. I have a page in my pad now, that is in red. All parallel lines, sitting on a wall, with a small scribbled-over box in the middle. It reminds me of the hours we spent with him writing his name (an E). The only one that was small, neat and balanced, he scribbled out (neatly). I never found out why it didn't please him. Kate xx

Lol. Kids are quite funny about what they like or don't and with no obvious reason. Our little one is left-handed and writes her name backwards. If you sit opposite her, it is correct! Thanks so much for a lovely review.

How blessed you are Wendy! I know that Emma was especially delighted that you showed up and made not only her day, but that of her classmates. What a great thing to sit with the kids and color. I'm so glad that you have the sequin to remind you of that special day, and I'm very glad that you shared this delightful story with us.
Have a blessed day.

I so love this! I have my own little collection box, shiny pebble, play doh sculpture, tiny hand print... I would not trade them for anything. So glad you and Emma had a special day!

At my Grand children's school they have Grandparents lunch and I love going although those tiny chairs are a trial to get up from! This is a sweet and endearing story and I enjoyed this special day Wendy, love Dolly x

Yes, those little chairs! I always hope they are strong enough, even though I am not heavy. I am glad you enjoyed the story, Dolly, thank you for reviewing.

How fortuitous! Nice writing.
So, did you return the next week?
Unfortunately, I never lived closer than several hundred miles from my grandkids.
Best wishes.

I am still thinking about next week. This happened only yesterday. Normally on her Preschool days I look after her little sister, so my husband had to manage most of the day by himself! Yesterday I made two trips to their area, as I also pick up the older one after school, and take her home, get her onto homework and so on before Mum picks up the other two after she finishes work. Thanks so much for reviewing. Always appreciated.

I have retired brother who works full time transporting and watching 4 grandkids here and there. Ugh. But the kids' parents really appreciated it.

Tuesday is my one regular day, with one child and then picking up the eldest from school, and then playing with all three when they get home, helping with baths etc. Three others on occasions, and the seventh lives a long way away. One day a week suits me fine. Lol.

I envy you for the love of your grandchildren. I will never know what a grandmother feels like as I lost my only son in 1985. Don't pity me, please. I came to grips with it long ago and have led an exciting life. But I will always wonder what grandchildren would have been like. I enjoyed your skillfully written story.

Aww! Thank you for sharing that special day when you were the guest of honor at Emma's pre-school. She was so proud of you being there and of course, you as a teacher knew how to make each child glow with confidence about each of their unique gifts. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks so much Helen. What a lovely and encouraging review.
I just realised I could have put this one in the contest about "A day in your life". Too late now!
Wendy
-
Is the deadline over? I wonder if Tom could enter it for you?
-
The deadline is not over, and it is not a blind contest, so I just wrote to Tom. I expect he will say it's too late ... but thank you for the idea.
Wendy
-
Hope it can still be entered! Did you reserve already?
-
No, I didn't reserve, so I asked Tom to deduct the money for the entrance fee from my account. Not sure if that is possible.

Is this an entry for one of mine? If it is I already feel defeated. You are one of a kind; me too save I Amadeus while you are an Ace, either that or someone has stacked the deck.ð???

Not in a contest. I forgot to check first. Now I realise it could have gone in "A day of your life". Darn!
