Your contest entry read well. There was smooth flow
and great imagery. I could see two friends talking and
knowing their secrets would be safe. The art choice
was perfect. I liked how you explained this idiom.
Best wishes in the contest, Jan

I like your poem. It reminds the reader of a simpler time when one actually knew one's neighbors and talked to them. Your rhyme scheme is on point. The visual fits perfectly. It's a good entry for the contest. Good luck!

I found these words to very creative! The author's words are clear,
descriptive, meaningful, interesting and creative. I thought about the
times I talked with neighbors at the gatepost! Thank you for the author's
notes - they speak volumes! Great Poem!

Barry,
I'm old enough to remember when this phrase was common. You' e done a great job of including all the little facial signals that would accompany the statement. If only the gateposts could talk!

I enjoyed this poem. I liked the inanimate gatepost being the repository of deepest secrets, fulfilling the old adage. Actually, I think the safest secret is between one person and only the gatepost!

Barry: yes, indeed, a very old saying. I'm almost 74 years of age so I've heard it many times but not so much recently. However, the picture is gorgeous and the old, familiar words somehow seem newly laundered. Must be your tender touch. Great job. Linda

Great rhyming, expressive words and easy to read. I haven't heard that saying "between you, me, and the gatepost" for a long time but it used to be popular. How perfect for the secrets shared by two friends.

I love the picture with that beautiful tree in front of the house. And the message in your poem speaks volumes. Those so-called friends obviously never heard of the gate post. Your secret gets around the neighborhood in no time. Thank you for the great awareness.

My dad used to use that phrase! Back in the fifties and sixties many a "chat" occurred over the fence, being neighborly...
Days of face to face conversation, not a text or Tweet!
Something has been lost...

I'll give away my age and say I STILL use this expression--around people who would understand its use! This is an excellent poem; it conveys a message about how people gossiped--oh, I mean communicated--back then! LOL!
