It sounds like she was a very great teacher indeed. It's great that you still see her from time to time. Thank you for sharing this story here, and best wishes.

It is a tribute to a great teacher that she could inspire your future vocation. Racism holds many able people back, so I was pleased to see what a successful teacher Mrs. Dixon was - respected by all. Starting out as the first African-American teacher in a rural district in Mississippi in the 1960s would have been a tough start. She clearly had the ability to use her 'Midas touch'.

Ms. Dixon (excuse me, DR. Dixon) sounds like a special lady indeed. It's not every day we meet someone with such a gift for life they can impact us simply by being there for us.
As for the writing itself, sometimes the narrative felt a little rushed. Some pieces of information didn't seem to flow with the story. However, overall it's a wonderful story and I can see your love for your special teacher in every bit. I'm glad that you knew her and could tell us about her.

I like the depth of you essay - it's not just a sentimental piece about your own experience (and a very heartfelt one, at that), but also a bit of a bio of a historically significant person who's still bettering lives today. An excellent essay and a very engrossing read.
