I always find talent and skill in your writing. Like you, I try not to sway into the political lane ~ anyway, I don't see a shiny knight on any political horse!
That aside, you've jumped in and tackled the contest--and refrained from partisan rants ~ That's a great way to tackle satire!
Let's hope there is a worthy wizard somewhere ~ I'm like Dorothy... Hoping for a happy ending, not trusting the man behind the curtain, and
I just know I'm not in Kansas anymore!
Good luck in the contest!

You are the most gracious woman I have ever met. Thank you for disagreeing with me, while being so kind about it. Did you read after I wrote on the description that it is meant for satire and fiction as I truly only used the familiar characters to make it more witty and funny, as all of these topics are in the news right now. Maybe not Nancy speaking from the bottom of the house, but like I said it was all meant for fun. I could have used the 3 stooges or any other four characters as my characters and nobody would have said a thing about it. The bad reviews that I have gotten are from people are from people judging my choice of characters and not the poem. Do you think I should go in and make the characters not so familiar?
-
Absolutely not! I totally got that it was satire and the identification of characters (and aren't they ALL "characters?")
Actually you managed a nice satire that did not rant nor cast aspersions-- you tackled the contest with skill and I'm sorry if you felt I was judging you for "Nancy, et al." I was NOT!
Seems these days any of us could pick any five political figures from left, right, or center and have one heck of a time swirling up a satirical piece --and LORD know we all need a bit of humor!
BTW--I do not disagree with everything you said...I was trying to communicate that I can barely get through a news cycle without wanting to throw my ruby slippers at the TV!
Smiles my friend. You stick to your guns! Happy Mother's Day!
I've ventued into political satire a time or two in the past.
Ricky Nelson wrote a song, "The Garden Party" eons ago. One set of lines has always stuck with me:
"But it's, all right now
I learned my lesson well
You see you can't please everyone
So ya got to please yourself"
You go, girl!

OMGosh girl, I was just crying as I had just planned on changing & ruining my poem so people wouldn't take me wrong way. I do care what people think.
Now with your message and the Awesome Ricky Nelson song, (I loved that one)
I'm not sure what to do.
Lol, you really did like the speaking from the bottom of the house???

OH, MAN! I think I should reword my review. Holy Cow it came across as upsetting you and that is NOT at all my intention! Heck no--don't change a word! I'm editing my review a bit, so you'll chill out on Mother's Day! It's FINE! It's Satire! Keep laughing...no more tears ever I said!

This story that reads like poetry seems pretty biased toward the former president.
I would hope that's not true for many reasons. Although this is well written and presented, I found this pretty offensive,I'm sure that was not your intention, but that's how I felt after reading it.
I think political topics are a slippery slope these days, but we all cry for freedom of speech.

No KL, this was meant to only show a humorous and witty fictional election, but is difficult if the characters aren't well known. It wasn't meant to offend anyone, which describes in my notes. However if that is how it looks, I truly apologize to you. The friendships I have been blessed with, of you and so many others here are more important to me than any stupid poem, so with that being said I will stick to my nicer side of writing.
Thank you my friend for your review.

My apologies, I failed to read the author notes.
I think you should write whatever you feel, if you make the reader feel emotional from it then you have done your job as a poet:)
My apologies again!

Debi,
I feel very badly about my review.
I always read the author notes.
In the past, at the top for category it has stated ?Satire?, your post did not.
So not knowing it was, as I read I got upset.
This teaches me a lesson to ALWAYS read the author?s notes.
I feel especially bad seeing as though it?s a beautiful Mother?s Day morning.
Please accept my apology, I am truly sorry.
-
Not your fault at all KL, and certainly nothing to apologize for. You mentioned posting satire; so where and how can I do that?
-
I?m not sure, but when you post there is a section to select your category. The default is general/ fiction. But you can choose, Romantic, Thriller, Self- Improvement, etc. Most likely you can find it there.
-
So far I changed the description part to say satire and fiction... something like that. I really was only trying to be witty and funny, but all of a sudden feel like a Roseanne Barr. I tried to change some of the poem, but if I do that, it looses its wit. Maybe I should just take it off the site completely?
Thank you my friend for trying to help and I will look at that part that I think I know what your talking about.

Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. I really enjoyed reading. I truly hope common sense takes over the Congress in November. It has too for we will be in real trouble. Good luck with the contest.

I was NOT offended. I agree with you. I only hope in November many are thrown out of office.

I was just rechecking to see why you thought I didn't like it. I see the four stars. I am soooo sorry. I have corrected the stars. I never met to give them to you. If it ever happens again, please let me know. My finger often slips.

The contest, which asked for a fictional work about censorship, clearly stated to avoid Partisan Rants. Unfortunately, you have presented us exactly what they asked contestants to not do. There is no mention of censorship of ideas, books, rights or any other type of censorship. For this reason, I can not give you a high rating. The actual use of meter and rhyme are good, but I think it's too political for this site.

Katie, I appreciate your comments and I believe I wrote in the description that this was the people trying to censor corruption in their land. It also asked for wit and some humor, as I believed it to be vey witty. I thought was subtle but humorous and I don't see how you could write about censorship without there being an opinion and a result of the censorship. There were no rants, just hints about what should happen as a result of what they were trying to censor. You know how I respect you and your opinions Katie, but I would just like to know if you are basing your rating on that you thought I didn't follow the prompt or because you don't embrace the same opinions? If its truly about the prompt, I will kindly drop out. As maybe I misunderstood the words of censorship and witty.
-
I reread the poem, but I still don't see anything about censorship. It is definitely political and witty, so I will let you decide if it fits the prompt or not. I'm thinking that particular prompt was a land-mine for problems.

Thank you for your kind reply and what I admire about you most is your strength and honesty, and if I didn't feel so comfortable with you and value our friendship, I would never have been able to be so frank with you in return.
That is big for me and says much about what kind of friend you are. Thank you for that gift.

Good work on this poem. I liked the creativity and the Wizards parody; really enjoyed the wordplay. Out on their...grass. Haha, well done. And the image of the Munchkins, small but still fighting. Best of luck on the contest,

Thank you so so much Blue Tiger! Lol, You aren't any relation to cowardly lyin, are you? I appreciate your review more than you could possibly know, as some are not taking it to well. This was truly meant to just be a funny fictional and witty poem, where the characters (who maybe seem familiar) are censoring corruption in the land of US us. Just not sure its worth the bad reviews who seem to be judging my content, more than the poem itself. I just find it easier to be witty if you can relate to the characters more. But strictly only meant to be amusing, not offensive to anyone. However I do thank you so very much for your very kind review and most kind comments.

This is a creative poem of political satire with a point of view. Freedom of speech standing tall, voting for liberty and justice for all. Good luck in this contest. It will be interesting to see if the "committee" sees this as satire or a political rant. You have put them on the spot, good job. Terry.

Thank you so much Terry! I gave it a lot of thought before posting, as I did go back and wrote author's notes and changed one line, stating that the munchkins were censoring corruption in the land. My notes just stated that this was only meant to be a fictional, funny, witty account of the election.
It's hard to do witty if nobody recognizes the characters. I really didn't expect everyone to stand up and cheer, but at the same time, people are judging on the content that they may disagree with instead of the merit of the writing.
This will be the end of my political and questionable poems, as after this I leave witty up to the comedians. I know that you warned me, and if need be, I will take it down, as my ranking cannot afford any more bad reviews.
And I have made so many lovely friends here, that it is not worth losing them.
I guess I am confused on how this could be viewed as political rant, when each line was done in a comical way, not as a straight out, I hate these people type of poem. Do you think I should message them and tell them how it was meant, and explain that I will drop out of the contest if that would be the right thing to do?
