My Last Dog

I loved this story! It not only tells about a pitiful little creature who needed love and care, it tells us cats can quickly accept a dog into their lives and actually be friends, and I have seen this many times. But beyond the appeal of the animals in this story, we see the tender heart of a woman who cannot resist mothering and nurturing a needy baby. Now that baby has become your best friend and a real blessing in your life. See how God works? Thank you for sharing this wonderful story. I enjoyed it very much.

Thank you for reading and the six stars. Yes, my cats have always gotten along with whatever dog was with us at the time. I will not allow a dog to chase or molest the cats either. Pup and the kittens formed a natural bond. I think it was because they were around the same age and all they came from abusive situations. God does work in some wonderful ways. I hope he lets me stay here long enough to care for all these critters until they pass away. Hugs.

That is such a sweet and charming story with a touch of humor thrown in at just the right spots. Pup sounds like a wonderful dog and you and Pup and all the cats have certainly enriched each other's lives. Kudos to all of you!!!

A charming tale of a beautiful life filled with friendships, feline, canine, and human. I love your originality in naming your animals. I guess the cats are kitty, kitten, cat, and Tom :-)

Thank you. Nope, my cats are Blossom, Mutt, Jeff, Blackie, Sweetie, and Skeezix. Skeezix is the youngest at 4, and Blossom is the oldest at 21. I love them all. Hugs.

I wish I had a six left. What a beautiful and compassionate story, and I am so glad you offered Pup a new and happy life. Her love for you has undoubtedly been ample reward. Beautifully written indeed. Best wishes for your entry in the contest.

I would not be so sure about Pup being your last dog. It might be safer to say you do not intend to have another dog after Pup. One never really knows what the future holds. You might live for another ten or fifteen tears. Life is funny like that. I will be seventy nine years old in seven days, and I at one time was sure that I would be long gone by age thirty five. We are not in charge of life and we just do not know, therefore we cannot say for certain. And you have already demonstrated that you are a softie.

Thank you. Wow, you have way overshot what you expected. You're are right too, one never knows. And I am a softie, so who can tell? Hugs to you.

I really enjoyed reading this. It made me smile because your words early in were very resilient "No more" and "no way" and by the end of your story you feel life would be empty without the pets. That is very true for all of us! It was nice that you gave some background info: made up your mind there would be no more dogs. I liked how the story progresses and the ending is there, but I took it as Pup might not be the last dog! Nice work.

Yeah, that Gordon knew if I saw the pup I wouldn't turn her away. That's why he overlooked my objections and sent his brother over with the pup. Gordon is still a vet today and I think he is older than me. Hugs.

Ahem. You had already said, " I had made up my mind, no more dogs,"
so how can we believe you'll be saying farewell to pup when it may be the other way around? Also, should we believe, "Pup will be my last dog."

Thank you. I'm reasonably certain I will outlive Pup. I sure hope so, she would be devastated if I was not here. She sticks to me like velcro and I spend all the time with her that I can. Hugs Thank you for the six stars.

In my opinion, a sterling piece of writing, based entirely upon how I felt while reading - I loved it and cannot thank you enough for sharing this beautifully rendered experience with us - me, in particular, because I;m selfish...

It sounds like you adore animals and have rescued a few of them. It is hard to lose a pet after you have shared a life together, I enjoyed your story here, love Dolly x

Thank you. I do love animals. I used to rescue abused horses too and find homes for them. Hugs to you.

This would have been a meaningful write, if you would have put it in the catagory of a story. But since it's supposed to be poetry, it lacks creativity. And sounds like your trying to benefit from prevaledge, where your people love animals more than human beings. Keep Writing

Thank you. If you read the rules of the contest it says to either write a poem or a short story. So it is in the category of a story. I love animals the SAME as human beings. I'm sorry you are unhappy with my story but to each his own. If you read some of the other entries you will find they are written in story form too.
