Or this person could leave like those others. Just like being in a relationship. You walked into, then you could walk out. The idea of religious cults and camps is a good one to explore. I think this will do well in the contest.

A harsh story about the ability of words to create prisons for people, real prisons, like cults, where brainwashing with words occurs and fear is also generated to keep people bound as prisoners. Well done.
