Did this really happen? What an amusing story! Scott is quite a unique guy with a kind heart. Jim is another irritating character by himself. You characterized him well. All in all, this is an enjoyable episode. Thanks for sharing!

Jim's official diagnosis is DSD--Dick-Spectrum Disorder.

The notes were short and to the point: Thanks for Thanksgiving; mark me down to Christmas.

Haha. Liz, this is hilarious. You characterized Jim well. His actions were atrocious to say the least. I commend Scott for sharing and volunteering. [I know this is fiction.] However, there probably is a lot of truth in it, and many can probably see a family member who acts as Jim did. Kudos to Jack. His comments were super--probably what all the relatives could agree on.
Respectfully, Jan

This made me chuckle! Poor Jim may not have many social skills - but at least he has the grace to write a thank you note (unless that was his brother as well). A very humorous story about Jim, one left on the outside it seems, and perhaps understandably.

Oh please tell me this is largely true! Plus--I have a relative, er, I'd love to send Scott's way. He sounds like Jim's brother from another mother! I'll donate, promise!

So karma can come from coping with the cantankerous.

A warm story about a person who is on the fringes of society. Jim and others like him often don't have places to go.

The piece is well written. The images are strong. The message stays on point. We get to know Jim and even like him. The end is unexpected, but nice.

A good read. Thanks for sharing. Kudos.

Excellent story, and it sounds like a TRUE story. What price some people are willing to pay to get rid of a jerk...family or no family. Priceless story. Best wishes on all of your writing endeavors. Melissa

Huge LOL, Elizabeth. Was Jim sending the thank-you notes, or was his brother doing that? This is an amusing story and it proves that truth *is* stranger than fiction because it would be difficult to dream something like this up.

Thanks for sharing and be well!

Wow. I think Scott deserves the every penny of $3000 because he has been so generous to help these poor people who have no where to go and offer food and a sense of family.

Well done.

Really? You kept the category as General Fiction but it sounds like it might have really happened! Sounds like Jim might have some personality disorder but he has the courtesy to write a thank-you note! So glad his brother is also grateful!
