Surely one is bound to lose the battle with encroaching age, it tends to look as it's died, it tends not to match the ageing countenance, beautifully written dear liz, thanks for sharing, wonderfully chatty, blessings Roy

You nailed it. Marlene has increasingly given up her independence; she's well aware of this and is fine with it. Go figure.

Last I saw her, she's got dark roots--Henry wants her to get it professionally colored--but the damage is done.

A hair-raising story told in your own inimitable style. I'm still pondering "trepidatious" - it seems to be out of the same stable as supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, though rather more succinct.

    How about "scared sh!tless"?

Sorry--didn't realize--trepidatious is used in US but not in UK!

    "leery"?

So regardless of his feelings for Marlene (if he really has any) he still sees himself as the viral stud with a hot blonde on his arm..... the picture is all about him. Poor Marlene! She needs to wake up before she's bald!

Smiles, Carol

Very lucky it didn't turn orange! Interesting exchange for a short and nuanced little event here. Great way of portraying it. Thank you for sharing this one--I've read a few by you so far and enjoyed them!

It seems Henry is obcessed with dye. I hope there is something deeper that hair color holding this relationhip together. He is just dyeing to have her please him.

I can't figure out what sort of the guy this Henry is. Never seen a man so obsessed with the colour of a woman's hair! I really wonder if this infatuation stage will last! In my opinion, it will go down, if not happened already. BTW, does Marlene have hairs on her head. With loads of chemicals on her head, I was just wondering! Another interesting story from you. Thanks for sharing!

Oh yes, I have a friend whose husband is garish black. Does not look good! Marlene is very long-suffering to allow him to dictate / insist upon doing her hair colour. Well written piece.

This does not bode well. Why in the world is Marlene doing this to herself? It makes me wary when a man wants his love to keep changing to fit his own desired image. The fact that he won't change his hair per her suggestion is also a warning sign. Thanks for sharing. But as friends, how much can you say?

Does anyone ever achieve the color shown on the hair dye box? I've considered every hair dye experience a shot in the dark! Hey! If he wanted her so blonde, how about springing for a professional salon experience? The Dollar Store? She's lucky all her hair didn't fall out! Men.... Can't live without them and can't shoot 'em!

Well...maybe.

Wink.

I believed this is a story about one of those dominant men who seem to revel in influencing his woman, either by threat or violence. And sad to say that women are often powerless to resist this kind of relationship. It is a well written story.
Best wishes!
