This is really classic pastoral romanticism, and you did a good job in this free verse narrative format. It really reminded me of Coleridge or Landor, in how it seemed so much like listening in on a conversation with yourself. The colorful imagery, the soft flow of the language, like a mountain stream, brought the idyllic scene to life and it seemed we were sitting right there watching the flowers bloom, the birds singing, the lovers entering the scene like Adam and Eve walking into the Garden of Eden. You summed it up well in the last stanza, focusing all the emotions with this cerebral analysis and coming to the conclusion that it is a creation of God to fascilitate love. estory

Though the shoulders are slumped and feet are slower, the eyes still see the gentle beauty of the trees and the lush grass. The sight fills the mid with solace
The free verse was well written .a kind of nostalgic soliloquy...

This is such a thoughtful, analytical piece. I really had to read it twice, once for the beauty of the poetic language and once for the depth of ideas, which were not easily grasped in one reading. I think a few well-placed commas might help, but perhaps you are one of those poets who don't care for commas. I can accept that. You poem is full of interesting ideas and therefore a fun one to read. I enjoyed it very much. MM

Sorry to be so late coming into this one. A beautiful poem of observed love set in nature's splendor. It's amazing what we see and the parallels we draw when studying. Marvelous offering, dear Jay! Sending you my best today as always and best wishes for the approaching contest,

Beautiful and nicely written. Your vision of nature and life was painted with a fine artist brush.
I could smell the honeysuckles and purple clover. see the lush green grass and feel nature beneath my feet. It's a shame that we seem to wait until we are older to truly discover the beauty of what was always here. I moved to my family home in the country a few years ago and I find myself in awe at the life that surrounds me here. People say I am alone, but I am not...

Hi JLR,
I love this poem! Wonderful verse that transverses time and contains the description of feeling that great Oneness out in nature that is so hard to describe, but your have! I often just think, how can it be that day in and day out, the beauty is given without a hitch, and we just need to show up to witness it. When I do, the gift given is without measure ...
" What I have come to realize is that the soft carpet of grass,
surrounded by this canopy of Pine, Maple, Ash and Poplar trees,
with an under-growth of brightly colored, fragrant flowers
and shrubs are all connected into a Oneness --
crafted by a great unseen, mysterious Creator of all this
which is before my very eyes!
I have a knowing -- welling up from deep within my bones
that this experience unfolded, time and time again,
from the very beginning to this present moment."
Perfectly written!
All the best in the far far off contest in March, lol. I think this poem is indeed a winner! I'm out of sixes :-( but if I had one, it would be yours.
