This is well written as in reading you can feel Chuck panicking. It would be a fun piece if it were not for Mr. Mahoney's death. Good for Chuck, Mr. Doherty but no for Kevin Mahoney

Liz,

Oh my stars. I hate to say this is funny - no. It's not at all funny. The fact that I'm trying so hard not to laugh must just be gas. Sure. That's it. I'm sure it will pass any moment. I've got to GO.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Oops - didn't make it.

Cheers for Chuck and Kevin Doherty. My condolences to Mr. Mahoney's family. Doesn't matter the time of day or night, our lives can change in a flash-based on something that happened to someone else. Glad it wasn't moving time for Chuck.

Smiles, Carol

I could feel the nervous tension, now Chuck had better hot-foot it over to his landlord and get a written agreement. Phew, he was close to being homeless! Mind you, if he could afford to rent a nice appartment in a condiminium, he can't be hard-up!! I enjoyed this story, Liz, well done! :)) Sandra xxxx

A good report about what memory can do to us when it is vague. He can now breathe a big sigh of relief since he now knows the real Kevin is not the Kevin he thought. LOL

I'm glad Chuck has nothing to worry about. I assume the unlucky dude had a boating accident? I've never been totally trusting of sailboats. Actually I've never been on one, but I don't think I'm going to add that activity to my bucket list. Someone offer a chance to do a hot air balloon ride a couple of days ago. That one didn't make my list either.

I enjoyed reading the story.

The suspense that was built at the beginning was sustained almost till the end.

Chuck is portrayed as a regular human who is more concerned about whether he will have to move his residence rather than the death of of his landlord. And that's perfectly fine because the consistency of his character is maintained till the end.

I wish the story ended in a different way. Not that there is anything wrong with the way it ends. It's just that the suspense and anticipation built up in the beginning fell a bit flat at the end.

Somehow, an expectation was built up in my mind that the story will end in some sort of crescendo or exciting twist.

But other than that, I enjoyed reading your story. Thanks for sharing it.

Thank you! You are the only one who clued into my ironic intent as to Chuck's self-centered concern. This in itself is the underlying theme of the piece; the narrative was window-dressing to make my point.

Point taken as regards the flat ending. Per my design, suspense as to the outcome is superfluous; a man is dead regardless. Thus my abrupt "punchline."

Thank you so much for getting it! Your intelligent and articulate response is evidence of engagement in the story--far more meaningful than 6-stars from a suck-up. Cheers. LIZ

I'm really glad you found my feedback useful. Chuck's self-centredness was the first thing that came to my mind, but then I realized that most people, in modern society, have become callous. It's just that a lot of them have mastered the art of facade.

And your observation that such people's prayers seem to be answered quite readily, was really wonderful.

I look forward to reading more stories from you 🙏

Hehe yes, Chuck does seem to have his own personal Jesus, or maybe he *is* his own personal Jesus :-)

Very well written! What a relief that he would still have his accommodation but as you say, very unfortunate for Kevin Mahoney. At least he now knows where his lease is! Good work!

Although it's a bit of a tragedy that Kevin Mahoney's body was found is not great, but it would have been tragic for Chuckie.if his surname would have been his landlord's he may have been sleeping in the glam camp. But PTL it wasn't Doherty, Beautifully written, blessings Roy

What a dilemma death can cause for some people (mainly the dead person) - I can certainly feel Chuck's tension concerning his lease in your dramatic story.
